Management of the deli-market told EVG contributor Stacie Joy that they will close by June, likely sooner. The cause? Slow business, high rent.
While several like-minded businesses have opened in the neighborhood in recent months, this marks the third corner market to close on First Avenue during the pandemic era ... joining the one on the SE corner of 10th Street and the SE corner of 12th Street.
Just how many delis does one neighborhood need?

ReplyDeleteThis is so sad because the owner is a wonderful person with excellent customer service. He had water delivered to Village View residents when we were unexpectedly without any water for an entire day-how kind-how caring. PLEASE NOTE THE 2 KITTENS NEED A HOME ASAP or he will have no choice but to give them to a shelter as he cannot take them. If ANYONE knows someone who can help foster or adopt these 2 beautiful friendly female kittens PLEASE contact the owner at Houston Village Farms. He closes May end of month. I have a cat who is used to being the only cat or I swear I would take both of them. Please help place these 2 adorable kitties if you can. THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteI hate to see the bodegas closing, but this bodega's prices weren't in line with the rest of the neighborhood (at least on the items I bought last time I was there, e.g. ice cream pints). It's right by my apartment and I would have loved to shop there if they weren't so expensive--I'm not surprised that they had slow traffic.
