Thank you to everyone who has shared photos and reports in recent days from our home-away-from-home, Key Food.
As we've been noting, a major aisle reorg is underway here on Avenue A and Fourth Street. The frozen foods section is heading from aisle 1 to 6. The produce area will be revamped and expanded.
That's just for beginners.
EVG correspondent Stacie Joy has been on it... and a report is forthcoming.
Hate to complain, but are all Key Food supermarkets the absolute worst? The one downstairs from where I live, so bad. Shelf prices are not what you pay at checkout, lots of nearly expired products. Overpriced items. What the heck?
ReplyDeleteI keep telling people: The Key Foods Shuffle is not a dance.
ReplyDeleteBut they just won’t listen and now everyone is waltzing around Key Foods.
Some Pulitzer prize winning photos there for sure.
ReplyDeleteIt's like a where is Treasure Hunt every time! as soon as you remember where something is they move it i kinda dig it
ReplyDeleteKey Food has that old school vibe. They could make it nice but they make too much money at this location to shut it down for a full renovation.
ReplyDeleteKey Food arugala salad $5.99; spring mix $5.99
ReplyDeleteWhole Foods (formerly Whole Paycheck): $3.99 each.
I save $8/week x 52 = $416/year.
Nada Moo "ice cream" at WF is great, and it replaced the ice cream deals at
KF since I went completely vegan.
I have lived in our hood since 2010. I can count on one hand how many times I've visited this store. I only patronize Whole Foods and Trader Joes for their broader selection and lower price points not to mention their offerings of fresher produce. And, the aesthetics of both stores are just better in my opinion. Key Foods reminds of being trapped in the 90's. I feel depressed when I had to step inside there. Even the interactions I had with staff weren't great. Just my two cents.
ReplyDeleteKey Foods is a food desert's idea of a nice supermarket. Haven't been in at least a couple years.
ReplyDeletePerhaps my favorite EV Grieve headline ever
ReplyDeletewhat. a. dump. i wouldn't buy meat there. ever. the meat department smells of rot and perfume. their prices have gone up so much that it's cheaper to walk to whole foods to save money. and their prices are always wrong when you ring them up. i was once told buy a cashier, if it's so bad, why do you come back? well. i've stopped shopping there by about 90%. it's my emergency only store now. not sure why E V G likes them so. but hey. to each their own.
ReplyDeleteThe Whole Prudes sure are out in force…
ReplyDeleteRot and perfume...that's just the dead vampires, well-known around these parts.
ReplyDeleteI <3 EV Key Food!
I love this Key Foods and its 80s/90s vibe mainly because it has that vibe. The Ramones, Beastie Boys, Basquiat, Madonna and a young Rupaul probably shopped there at some point. It's where the real NYers shop. Workers there have always been friendly to me but then I'm friendly to them too. I don't relate to those here who criticize it but am guessing they're the types who subscribe to Blue Apron and then leave their food sitting in the hall for a week.
