Thank you for linking to the very damning Indypendent article on Rivera and East River Park. The article spells out the timeline and facts in a way that's easy to understand and should be cited when ever anyone claims there was "no choice" but to destroy the entire park. We were all lied to and the repercussions will last for decades to come.

Seeing the Dan Goldman per vote numbers is reminiscent of Bloomberg's third term. I would have gladly switched votes for $200 in cash and saved him $39.

At least Dan Goldman's money was HIS money and not DIRTY money like the more than $400,000 in "donations" received by Rivera from the real estate industry.

Wow, Goldman spent $300 per vote and got barely more votes (in the not yet completed count) than Yuh-Line Niou, who had to run on a shoe-string budget and faced a real-estate-financed smear campaign with twice her budget. Niou got also 50% more votes than Carlina Rivera, whose 'pragmatism' bought her real estate support. If Niou runs as independent or on the Working Families Party platform, then voters can show that votes matter more than millions of dollars. It won't be easy, but democracy is at stake. It should not be sold out to the hightest $bidder. - This might also give Rivera pause to think back about her roots in community work with GOLES and whether fighting for ordinary constituencies' livlihoods weighs more then the donations of a few wealthy profiteers.

Thank you the Indypendent article as well. What a piece of work Rivera is.

re: anon 4:31pm. As difficult as it may be for you to believe, some people voted for Goldman because of his policies, not because he came from a wealthy background.

Surely some due, and he empasized several policy points, which are widely chaired in this district. More problematic is a host of other policy areas. Of some 12 candidates, who had most opportunities to makes his or her views knows? Who satiated the airwaves with slick TV ads? Who sent more than a dozen flyers with targeted sound bites out per household? Who were the candidates who didn't, and had to just rely on community relations to spread word and/or active searches on the Internet for their policy platforms and achievement records?

“ More problematic is a host of other policy areas.”

To you maybe. Others voted for him specifically because he has these views.

A dozen flyers mailed by Goldman per household, but apart from a few popular sound bites hardly any substance. Even the New York Times's endorsement pointed to the caveat that he would have to learn the broad range of issues from the community in coming years, if he would get elected. There are female alternatives who would be more ready from day one.

"There are female alternatives who would be more ready from day one." Probably, if you support all the issues they support. I do not.

I don't know about money spent but I received the most mailings by from Carlina for the primary.

Sad day for democracy when the rich can buy a seat in congress. Our choicest dwindeld now that Yuh-Line Nieu announced she is not running this time on any other party line to challenge Goldman whose shameless $4 million campaign bought him narrow lead, helped by a real estate-financed smear campaign.
