Report: City's first NFT restaurant slated for the former Sunshine Cinema location on Houston

The city's first NFT restaurant has signed a lease at the new 9-story office building at 141 E. Houston St. between Eldridge and Forsyth.

According to the Post, the Flyfish Club is leasing three levels, 11,000 square feet total, for the members-only club that will feature a "bustling" cocktail lounge, an upstairs restaurant and outdoor space.
Details!
Flyfish was founded by the VCR Group’s restaurateur David Rodolitz, entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk, celebrity chef Josh Capon and chef Conor Hanlon — with membership through non-fungible tokens that were purchased on the blockchain and are now being resold on Opensea.io.
And!
An "intimate" omakase room will additionally have a menu being created by Masa Ito, a partner with VCR Group in the Ito restaurant, and entered through a separate token. Here, members are allowed just one guest, which is the same for regular members in the cocktail lounge. But diners can bring a number of guests depending on their table size and reservation.
Annnnd!
... so far they have sold 1,294 regular memberships with the club reserving 1,423 and 318 omakase memberships with 67 reserved by the club. Tokens started at 2.5 Ethereum ($8,400 in January) and are now being listed for 3.5 Ethereum, or $5,390, to as much as 150 Ethereum, or $190,170 — and provide entry to the restaurant and cocktail lounge.

The Omakase token was first offered for 4.25 Ethereum ($14,300 in January) and now is offered for as much as 22.8571 Ethereum, nearly $29,000 — and provides access to that exclusive space.
Here's the Flyfish opening announcement...

This is all happening on the site of the former Sunshine Cinema (RIP January 2018).

FFS. The idiocy, it burns.

wow, thank you! I'll put this on my growing list of "must avoids".

CB3 should be proud of this one. Another triumph of their courageous leadership, saving us from independent cinema to protect *checks notes* already-defunct crypto-capitalist pyramid schemes.

I hope CB3 is proud!!! we had by far the BEST indie cinema in NYC-- wonderful projection, imaginative programming. They left because they were denied a license by CB3 to sell WINE AND BEER. So damn shortsighted.

I think they should hire Chef Julian Slowik. He's the only choice for this caliber of customer.

I believe Kendall Roy is the main investor.

OH god I heard of this thing. This "NFT Restaurant" is a social club in disguise. The "nft membership" gets you ahead of the line or some stupidity like that.

Yeah this is a real benefit to the community. I swear, shit like this epitomizes the heights of classist arrogance that exists in this city. May it go bankrupt within a year.

not to worry i give this under 6mos lifespan since the NFT market has tanked, is dead in the water. no one cares about NFTs.

Growing up in NYC, there was never a moment of boredom.
Now I’m bored. Everything that was fun is gone and has been replaced with nonsense.
I first went to Times Square in the late 1960’s at 8 years old.
Went to play pinball but also stopped in at a titty bar.
Big fun for the 10 seconds I was allowed to stay.
Then in a few years came Punk Rock and everything that went with it.
The best thing that ever happened in New York.
Now look at this town. Yikes

To think that this pretentious, decadent, fucktard monstrosity is within a healthy stones-throw of the old Fillmore East, or CBGBs, or even the Stage Deli boggles the mind. Stop the world, I want to get off.

This actually one of the better looking modernist buildings of late. The custom glass facade is ten times more expensive than the typical use of cheapo aluminum and standard size windows. The NFT club is no different than Studio 54 or Platos Retreat back in the day. The EV didn't start or end with CBGBs or the Fillmore. What a pathetic way of thinking about things. In 1981 some months before I moved to Europe I saw the words "Mudd Club dies a slow death" scrawled on its bathroom wall. That scene was long gone decades ago........

This building defines bland modernism, wholly without interest or any relation to the history or buildings by the site. It’s another tedious travesty of profit over design or community. In other words…crap.

@1:50- Richard Ferris+ Partners is an award winning architect, over 90 to be exact. How many have you won?

Who needs the glory of Sunshine? It's so much cooler to open a members-only club full of tech nerds that somehow makes the very simple concept of "membership" unbelievably complicated, confusing, and potentially financially unstable.

This is an absolute fucking travesty. Good God. Bring back my movie theater and let these rich douchebags go desecrate Midtown where they belong!!!

Glamma said...

Yeah it's disgusting you clearly have no taste or regard for history or culture xtc

Just came here to post for the record that this is pure poetry. The bro slap at 41 seconds followed by "located a few blocks east of Soho" is just too on point. Epitomizes this moment and everything it aspires to.
