Noted
On Monday night, an EVG reader told us that the lights were off on the Tompkins Square Park holiday tree — 24 hours after the official and festive lighting ceremony.

They probably could no longer afford Con Ed’s ridiculous rates.
ReplyDeleteIt is the annual Tompkins tradition to either keep the lights on for months, or sporadically just to keep you guessing. LOL.
ReplyDeleteSo many times Parks Department keep the lights on during daytime...
ReplyDeleteSeriously??? wtf
ReplyDeleteThe utter dysfunction of TSP is its charm?
ReplyDeleteReported to 311. The chap who took my call grew up on Ave. D.
ReplyDeleteI walked by last night and nada, no lights. 100% East Village.
ReplyDelete• I had to call Chief of Staff at NYC Parks to get the lights put up the day before the tree lighting as crew never showed up.
ReplyDelete• the tree was lit for about a day when the fuse blew
• parks department ignored calls for 3 days
• I managed to get an the electrical crew over there this morning for repairs and the tree was back on
• one hour later it was off again
Neighbors should be aware. Your council member & immunity board haven’t allocated significant funding for Tompkins Square in decades. Current staff has been cut and spends all their time administering to the addicts & mentally ill — as well as removing more than 400 needles a week from the park & playgrounds.
There is only so long that the park can be held together with duct tape & volunteers before it completely breaks down
Please complain to your electeds. Demand new leadership at CB3.
I’ve been a volunteer at that park for 30+ years and can tell you it is beyond repair
Carlina Rivera is no lover of parks. Look at East River Park. Not surprising she’s not supporting TSP. Vote in someone who cares.
