Does the owner really believe the cops would bother with that?

If you walk around alphabet city at like 5 or 6 am the whole area smells like paint. They seem to always do it around that time. I walked up to a random wall out of curiosity and every tag I touched was still dripping wet.

It would be so incredible if the cops actually did something about this scourge. Some parts of the East Village looks so terrible. I wonder what they would do if “fuck these guys” bumper stickers were put over every tag

Graffiti can be quite beautiful, lend color to the neighborhood, and allow aesthetic expression from the grassroots. Of course, some more than others.

Ha. I love when people talk about graffiti being an expression of art or helping define the essence of neighborhood. Business owners need to accept this as a way of doing business here and how dare they complain. But when their own home or car gets tagged, some how the line has been crossed. Then its different.

What a brilliant idea to make things look better!

Is present day graffiti art since 99.5% of it looks exactly the way it did in 1978? We are on our third possibly 4th generation of "me too" graffiti artist looking to make a name (or tag) for themselves. I would be enthusiastic about the whole thing if these artist tagged buildings owned by the likes of Jared Kushner and passed on putting their art on the facade of an independent business.

When I used to write graffiti in Queens in the early 1970’s, when you wanted to disrespect another tagger you wrote ‘Hot 110’ over their piece.

Graffiti is nothing more than vandalism and is an indication of a neighborhood in decline. Unfortunately the LES and the Bowery are covered in this and the city doesn't appear to care.

4:26pm is spot on and it's so depressing. I walked along Houston from Broadway to B tonight and the number of things that have been totally defaced is so depressing - the Bowery Wall looks terrible, beautiful activist things (supporting woman in Iran) are defaced, there are ugly tags on doors/walls/windows everywhere, and the Synagogue is tagged!!! I personally love street art and get that one person's graffiti could be another's street art but there isn't an iota of respect for prior work or property and it's depressing.

Saw earlier that the beautiful mural on Rite Aid has a tag. I love this mural and hope that stupid tag doesn't multiply.

New York City gave up prosecuting graffiti vandals during the DeBlasio administration. Arresting someone that the system will immediately drop charges on (not just release without bail) is dispiriting and opens the officer up to personal liability. Paint on lads! You won.
