Packing up Café Cortadito

Café Cortadito has closed its doors at 210 E. Third St., just east of Avenue B, after service this past Saturday.

As we first reported, Ricardo Arias and Patricia Valencia, the husband-and-wife owners of the popular Cuban restaurant, were facing a rent hike from $8,000 to $15,000 per month.

On Monday, EVG contributor Stacie Joy stopped by to find the owners packing up the space.

On the positive side, they have identified a new location not too far away... though the owners haven't signed a lease just yet. Stay tuned.

  5. Oh my goodness!! I didn’t know! 🥺😢 I just walked there to have lunch only to find it closed. That has been my favorite restaurant for years! I’m so sad. I hope they’re able to find a new space and open quickly. I am absolutely disgusted by the landlords. So gross.

  7. I used to eat at that place every couple of weeks with a couple of my Cabrini co-workers, for the last couple of years that facility was open and remember Patricia and Ricardo being so friendly and wonderful. I never really came back to that area for any reason, but still so sad to see it close.
I just told one of those people I ate with there (who lives/works in NJ now) and she was very sad to hear also. Glad to hear they have found another spot and I will definitely seek it out if I'm anywhere near there in the future. All the best of luck for the new place!
