In recent weeks, workers have been gut-renovating the vacant storefront on the SE corner of First Avenue and 10th Street.
And now, as if anyone will be surprised, it turns out that the new business will be a cannabis/CBD shop, another in the many that have popped up in the past year... and that is not legal.
Last week, Mayor Adams and DA Bragg started cracking down on illegal storefront operations by targeting the landlords.
The city's third legal cannabis shop — aka Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary — opened on Monday at 62 E. 13th St. just west of Broadway.
The previous tenant on this corner, the E. 10th St. Finest Deli, closed in December 2020.

We are seeing the city crumble before our eyes w/ no leadership or foresight whatsoever. Anarchy is NOT the answer, however exciting some believe that to be. Way TOO many people here, for no rules...chaos & disorder.
ReplyDeleteThis city really is a joke.
ReplyDeleteThat’s what makes NYC great - if you want rules try moving to Florida
ReplyDeletefor those of us who live in the area, there are way too many smoke shops that will be shut down for illegal selling. so these are really "pop ups"
ReplyDeletereally miss the deli that was on the corner. and commodities across the street... am so over the the predatory landlord rent cycle that's happening on 1st ave. community board 3, where ARE you??
Landlords who knowingly rent to these illegal spots need to be dragged into court and forced to pay major fines for flouting the law. Unless you start hitting the real estate industry in their pocket, places like this will keep opening.
