Time check

Daylight Saving Time began Sunday, March 12, at 2 a.m., when you set your clocks forward one hour (or your smartphone or cable box does it automatically unless you got rid of cable, which isn't a bad idea...).

And how much longer will we need to do this????

Per Gothamist
The push to force permanent daylight saving time nationally gained momentum in Congress last year, when a bill to do so passed the Senate on a voice vote but died in the House. Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio reintroduced his bill this year.

  1. Instead of Daylight Savings Time, it would be better to make Standard Time permanent. Health experts say it is better for our bodies to have sunlight in the morning. Safety experts are concerned about children walking to school in the dark in the long fall/winter months.

    1. Walking to school safety should be addressed by making the streets safe for pedestrians, not by screwing with the time…

  2. Why make DST permanent when the true setting should be standard time all year round? Do we blindly follow politicians from Florida?

  3. Time is an artificial construct.

  4. Why standard time is the "true" setting? Was it decided by a divine being, or by nature, or the constitution?
Where does it says that 4-4:30 in the afternoon should be dark? Talking about depression inducing time...

  5. The "kids walking in the dark" excuse perplexes me. Change the time school starts, problem solved.

My life begins when work ends, so I would like to have more sunlight in the evening. Otherwise, I'd be spending half the year working without seeing any sunlight, which I think has the bigger societal impact. Hello, severe depression!

  8. Let's all set back our bathroom scales by five pounds, make us feel a little better about miserable life. That is effectively what DST does. Extremely dumb. God I hate being part of humanity.

  9. I actually really like the pic above. Is it a bar in East Village?

  10. Ahhh, thanks Grieve. I was the one who asked. I never noticed that part at Katz's and I've been here since '04. Love that I learned about this today. Thanks!
