In a message to EVG, a company spokesperson said:
We have taken a step back from retail after our past year of serving East Village and Times Square and appreciate all the fans who came out to share our joy of cookies! We hope to be back in NYC with shops in the future...
NYC Captain Cookie fans can order for delivery on the company's website.
The Washington, D.C.-based mobile business operated by Neil Hershman serves "fresh-baked cookies, local milk, and made-to-order ice cream sandwiches." There are storefronts in Washington, D.C., and Raleigh, N.C.
They opened here at the end of April 2022.
They have to sell a lot of cookies to afford rent, taxes, and salaries. I visited a couple of times and there were few customers inside. This comes of no surprise.
ReplyDeleteThere was never anyone in there, except a few employees looking quite bored. I think they had some misconceived notion that NYU students were going to be buying lots of cookies. Also, it didn't help that Donut Pub, which offers a 'close enough' product, is right across the street, and has a much more solid reputation.
ReplyDeleteHate to say it but the cookies were not good, they tasted like the cookies you get at Subway when you order the meal.
ReplyDeleteThis kind of cornball branding works in Washington DC, home of some of the corniest businesses names including Commander Salamander, The Grill from Ipanema, Segs in the City and Thai Tanic, but not so much here. Insomnia Cookies are better, and Holey Cream is eating their lunch.
ReplyDeleteNow you just made go to all those places next time I see a show at 9:30

I visited during the holidays conveying my support for this business. My selection was disappointing. I bake as a side hustle and have adopted a few techniques through trial and error. When you're presenting a cookie for sale there must be an aesthetic, a unique taste, and a consistency which is on par with your local competitors, and hopefully even better if you're lucky. Perhaps they can reformulate their concept and work on delivering a better, more tasteful product for their consumers, especially in NYC when the pubic can be fickle and discerning.
ReplyDeleteThe space will probably become another smoke shop sadly
