Several readers noted that the brand's first location, on 10th Street just west of First Avenue, was busted this past Thursday.
While the physical storefronts are temporarily shuttered, special orders and deliveries are still available...
In a follow-up article on Saturday, the Post reported that Thursday's raid yielded 1,052 edibles, 303 THC vapes, and 97 pre-rolls (good for a $13,500 fine) from the West Fourth Street Sweetooth.
There wasn't any mention of what may have been seized from the EV storefront, which opened last fall. There's a closed notice on the space via the Department of Health...
In February, Mayor Adams and Manhattan DA Bragg announced that they have joined forces to combat the proliferation of illegal, unlicensed cannabis dispensaries in the city.
Following that, the NYPD filed complaints against four unlicensed establishments selling cannabis in the jurisdiction of the 9th Precinct, which covers the East Village.
Yes, this was an illegal shop, but legalizing marijuana in NYC was just another bad idea that was poorly executed without enough thought put into it. Because it’s all about the money, at everyone’s expense. So now we all have to smell weed everywhere where we go, including at home if you should want to open your windows for some fresh air. But hey, the local government is reaping in big bucks! Next up is congestion pricing, and casinos. Government is notorious for poor leadership, and history always seems to repeat itself.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. used to think nothing could be worse than cigarette smoke but marijuana smoke is stronger and it seems everybody is smoking on the street. A little here and there is one thing, but now it seems omnipresent.
DeleteThere's a bill in the city council soon to be voted on which would make sleeping outdoors legal, it would be the first in the country. Yet another thing to deal with if it passes and Mr. Adams signs off
Delete7:26 is right.
ReplyDeleteThis is about money. And nothing else. We co-exist in a capitalist society where everything is priced and taxed. I don't know much about Sweetooth, but I do know there are various closings and/or raids taking place around the city because of illegal activities such as this. I read an article in the NY Times that recommended only visiting venues which are regulated and licensed for the sale of 420 without the fear of purchasing something which might be tainted or laced with fentanyl. I don't want to sound like a fatalist, but we all need to be careful out there, especially if you own a business.
^^^^ "all about the money at everyone's expense?" I haven't seen this poor of an understanding of economics in a long time.
ReplyDeleteNYS so fucked up legalization and here's the thing they're not making hardly any money on it cause they've been super slow about permitting been to many other states that have none of the issues we do still mystified why NYS didn't copy Michigan Mass or Co but here we are
ReplyDeleteThe politicians botched this legalization rollout royally, and the market just swept over it like a tsunami. Now they’re trying to plug a few holes in the dike, but there’s no holding back the ocean.
ReplyDeleteDid they really think they could steer a billion dollar underground market all into the hands of a few politically connected organizations? Utterly clueless.
And who’s leading the crusade? Gale Brewer. A Carry Nation for the 21st Century!
Why just Sweet Tooth? Will they be going after all the illegal shops?
ReplyDelete@8:54pm: That's CARRIE NATION; at least get her name spelled right.
ReplyDeleteDidn't expect the puritanical attitudes to roll out on this one, but hey-ho. Legalized weed is good; dubiously legal shops like this one taking advantage of the murky rollout are bad
