As for a reason for the closure, Sandee said simply in an Instagram message that "it's time."
The no-frills neighborhood bar with a pool table, free peanuts, and an extensive menu of whiskeys has been a solid, low-key hangout through the years at 121 Essex between Rivington and Delancey. They will be missed.
Sandee and her hubby Max are some of the nicest people that ever lived in the LES and their sweet doggie who died I loved because she would actually sit on a barstool next to me when I drank there. I wish them all the best and hope their retirement is a happy one.

DeleteSome of my best memories of New York were Sandee, Max and Betty Page. The staff were welcoming and real and the customers became family ❤️
