Signs from an old chair: Remembering East Village standby Angelica Kitchen on 12th Street

From last night on 12th Street just east of Second Avenue... a discarded chair with a note:

An original chair from
Angelica Kitchen
An East Village Icon 1976-2017
(Sacrilege to see Five Guys opening on this street)
You can read more about Angelica Kitchen, 300 E. 12th St., here.

Thank you to @ajathas for the photos!

  2. Im sorry but during the 1970’s from the corner of 2nd ave to where the closed chinese restaurant is was a dry cleaners called R&S, they moved to 2nd ave in the 1980’s where the closed pizza shop in now currently. I remember this well because the dry cleaners had a dry cleaning facility on site, that distinctive dry clean smell would linger in the air.

    1. It’s a chain. I don’t know about you but I didn’t move to the east village 25 years ago out of love for chain restaurants.

  4. @9:52, boomers in the EV won't be happy until the buildings are abandoned and burnt out because that's the only way the city will be great again

  5. Even worse than being a chain, 5 Guys commits the mortal sin of burgers by not permitting you to order it anything less than medium. What self-respecting burger place won't let you order a rare or medium-rare burger? Reason enough to never go there, though I do admit that their fries are pretty good.

  6. I got one of their pyrex glass pie dishes at home with me when they've left it outside the restaurant as it was closing .will forever treasure it!
