Tompkins Square basketball courts remain closed for mural installation

As of Wednesday evening, the basketball courts in Tompkins Square Park have been fenced off ahead of a mural installation.

Na Chainkua Reindorf will create "Gaze" — "a stylized eye which is a recurring symbol" in her work.

There is no word on the timeline for the project.
The fitness area here along 10th Street and Avenue B remains open...
H/T to the EVG reader for the initial tip and to Steven for the photos...

  1. Excellent photos, Steven! Hope the mural on the basketball courts is finished soon. Then the B-ballers can Be stylin' on Avenue B!

  2. So on a scale of the skateboard area renovation (relatively quick) to the field house (a couple days work a month. maybe) how long until there's progress? No word on the timeline could be very ominous as this is the Parks Department we're talking about.

  3. I'm sorry but we are loosing a bunch of hoops for this? Noone is gonna care about this as they run a fast break, but now with the park closed and the invasion of the idiot pickleballers funding a hoop is going to be very difficult. Who thinks this is a good idea.

  4. I seem to remember when YouTube last resurfaced the basketball courts that they were closed for months. No one ever showed up to do the job. Anyone taking bets when the courts re-open?
