This afternoon's filming of the 1990s crime thriller "Caught Stealing" was centered on Sixth Street at Avenue A. Austin Butler's character is spotted depositing a garbage bag on the sidewalk and carrying a laundry bag (we're guessing TBH)...
He was also seen huddling with director Darren Aronofsky (an East Village resident with an impressive body of work)...
... and walking alongside the resurrected Benny's Burritos...
And a few other set pieces... featuring some familiar names from the past...
As we've been reporting, "Caught Stealing," based on Charlie Huston's novel of the same name, has been giving parts of Avenue A a 1990s look during the shoot, which is expected to last through Friday.
The impressive cast includes ZoĆ« Kravitz, Regina King, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, Will Brill, Bad Bunny, Griffin Dunne, Vincent D’Onofrio and Action Bronson.
The attention to detail with these set designers is amazing. Would love to be involved in something like that.
ReplyDeleteSo it seems they take those 'obey' posters down each night? Because the other day I was walking by (after EVGrieve had already posted about scenes with these poster on the wall) and they were not there anymore, but now they put them put them up again for another scene it seems.
How much longer will they be filming? Would like to check it out in person.
Bring back Benny's Burritos!
ReplyDeleteYESS! bring it back, I miss the chicken quesadilla
DeleteNothimg since comes close.
DeleteI love this iteration of Avenue A. I wish it could stay this way after they’re finished filming!
ReplyDeleteDamascus falafel was the only middle eatern option here for some time by the end of the 90s. The falafel was very good, the pitas were awful, as it was in most Arabic food joints in those years.
ReplyDeleteThere are some good fake storefronts down on Orchard and Delancey that are worth checking out. There's one for "Norkin Shoes" with a beautiful neon sign.
ReplyDeleteIt is fascinating seeing the hood as it was in the bad ol' days. The only things missing are the crackheads scouring the curbs for vials and the 'sidewalk stores'.
ReplyDeleteThanks Stacie for being on the scene - glad that pizza slice is still up ! HA
ReplyDeleteAustin stole my look!
ReplyDeleteAre there mosaics left? Hope those get into a backdrop
