A signage snag for Small Village Deli on Avenue B

Top 2 photos by Stacie Joy

Work continues inside the Small Village Deli on the NW corner of Avenue B and Fifth Street.

Meanwhile, outside, there's apparently a small problem with the exterior signage here. A DOB summons posted to the door on Monday states: "Observed illuminated sign approx 80 sq feet above premises, no permit on file, creating a safety hazard."
All illuminated exterior signs require permits, with yearly renewals, per the DOB

Not sure if there's any connection, but we did hear from a reader complaining that the sign seemed too bright...
Perhaps a dimmer switch is in order.

  1. Good. This place looks like it was trying to light the surface of the moon. No need for that.

  2. Last time I went to Virginia's on 3rd st there was this deli across from it that had lights that somehow shined directly into the windows. Never really experienced this before in this way but MAN it is/was so damn bright... like a car headlight pointed at you. I feel like stuff like that has to not be doing it right.

  3. Maybe they can get to the dollar slice place on Avenue A below 6th St to dial it down from 11. I have to cross the street to avoid being blinded by their spotlight on my way to Key Food.
