A popular decades-spanning family-owned business on Avenue D has closed.
Several readers told us that Rosa Deli & Grocery shut down over the weekend on the northwest corner of Avenue D and Sixth Street.
The shop was known for its busy grill counter ... and as one of the increasingly rare places where you could still get an egg-and-cheese on a bagel and a coffee for about $6.
A neighborhood resident told us the rent increased, and owner Juan could no longer afford the space.

What a shame - Thanks greedy Landlord for ruining the EV
Juan was a treasure. I lived on D for 10 years and he was always super nice, loved to talk about the Mets and his home/family in the DR. He always said he'd host me and we could hang out on the beach with a case of Presidente if I ever wanted to go. Love that guy.
You know that businesses with 10 year lease are paying way below market by the lease end, and it's absolutely normal that landlords would like to bring it up to date for a new one.
It doesn't called ruining the EV, it's called NYC always changing.
Sorry but commercial/residential rents consistently increasing may be normal but it also forces out long time business owners and residents who were responsible for turning the LES in to the EV 🙄 and making it desirable. I remember
