"We all feel for the homeless & addicted," the sign reads, before criticizing local elected officials and the 9th Precinct over what its author describes as dangerous conditions outside the building and around the corner.
The flyer asks readers to contact Assemblymember Keith Powers and State Sen. Brian Kavanagh. (Kavanagh’s name is misspelled on the sign.) Someone also wrote "Please don’t tear down" across the top.
As previously reported, the area drew renewed attention after a June 2024 stabbing spree left one man dead and two others wounded during a Sunday afternoon attack. Alejandro Piedra was sentenced in May to 18 years to life in state prison for the attacks.
Meanwhile, as the notice makes clear, some residents continue to feel unsafe around the intersection.

ReplyDeletePowers was the NYC City Council member for District 4. That's on the north side of 14th Street, Stuy Town, etc. He is now the NYS Assembly Person for District Number: 74, Coverage Area: East Side of Manhattan, including parts of Midtown, Murray Hill, Gramercy, the East Village, Stuyvesant Town–Peter Cooper Village, and the Lower East Side. So he now represents this section on a NYS level. . The totally useless REBNY owned and paid for Carla Rivera was once the NYC City Council member for District 2 which has the south side of 14th Street and the EV. She has, "bless her heart" resigned before her term ended and so Harvey Epstein is now the acting District 2 City Council member since he won the Dem. primary. Kavanagh is the NYS Senate member for this EV section and he will retire at the end of his current term. So the posters of this notice should focus on Harvey Epstein being the local NYC politician who can have the most impact.
On the east side of 1st Ave, between 13th and 14th Streets there is a tough "crew;" who hang out on the sidewalk just south of the L train entrance. They have a pit bull. They are not "visually" violating any law per se (NYPD buy and busts are gone forever) but this is not this scene that is going to end on a good note. Also not noted is the 14th Street Immaculate Conception flea market, do a search on that issue. Even Rivera complained about that. And the recent opening of Shaky Eyez is also not a good thing, the front of that was a major drug dealer hangout and IMO, will soon be again.
A lot of moving parts. Overall, a 14th Street cluster fuck. Again and again. Sigh. .
The fact y'all still believe in these Democratic politicians... New Yorker here and unfortunately they have failed us and basically they are transitioning to socialism/communist. We all need fo wake up. This will not get better
ReplyDeleteCheck out Pitt St...7th Precinct has been USELESS in helping their neighbors for decade now...they actually watch as dealers distribute between the cars parked there.
ReplyDeleteI walked by recently and the pit bull was not tied up. I use a cane for mobility and it is very scary to walk past it knowing I have little ability to run away if the dog were to become violent.
ReplyDeleteThis is also sadly happening in Tompkins Square where there has been increased drug usage and needles left laying around the park and a permanent encampment it seems in the center of the park. Harvey has not articulated a plan or a demonstrated concern to stop it.

DeleteThe administrative failures go back years and years. This just didn't start happening. I'd put a lot more of this on Adams, who held the press event at the Y and said a mobile command unit was on this way to the corner. That never materialized as his political problems mounted.

I get a big kick out of the MAGA/REBNY trolls who post here. You know, the ones who throw out terms like communist/socialist without a clue of what they stand for. Social Security, Medicare, the HSTPA and the RGB, just to name a few, I guess you want these to be killed? That being said, as per some examples, Mamdani went overboard by taking the NYPD out of the homeless encampment mix, just leaving that they have to confirm an encampment (as per 311 rules) . A bad mistake that he needs to reverse. I have already blasted Rivera as useless, especially when we found out she’s really not a true progressive at all. And Harvey has been mixed bag as a NYS Assembly member, bail reform, while done with good intentions, (like prohibition) has been a CF. Let’s see how he does as a NYC Council member. The Brooklyn Dem party is corrupt as hell. That’s’ where Adams came from. You see unlike you; I am not a cult follower.
