Current operating owner Michael Stewart has been part of the bar since the beginning: He started as the doorman on opening weekend.
"In a city increasingly known for rapid change, sticking with a concept that shows reverence for the history of New York City, as well as that of classic beauty salons and bars, has kept us going," Stewart told EVG. "I'd like to think we embrace bygone eras of the neighborhood without simply resting on nostalgia. And, of course, we have our loyal supporters and staff to thank for our longevity."
The anniversary lineup includes Jon Spencer, Daddy Long Legs and Kurt Baker & The 3 A.M.'s, with DJ sets by Lenny Kaye and others.
Afterward, the celebration moves to Beauty Bar, 231 E. 14th St. between Second Avenue and Third Avenue, for an after-party with DJ Jonathan Toubin.
Tickets are available via Dice. Drom is at 85 Avenue A near Sixth Street.
