New details have emerged about the Sept. 2 break-in at Most Holy Redeemer Church on Third Street.
According to a source familiar with the church's security footage, the suspect jumped the fence, damaged a door and entered the church, where he spent only a few minutes taking selfies and other photos — including images with the church organ and in front of the altar.
The source said the man did not steal or otherwise disturb anything inside the church before leaving the same way he entered. He then covered his face and went west on Third Street to Avenue A.
The account provides more detail about an incident that initially prompted a large NYPD response, including Emergency Service Unit officers and K-9 teams. Police later said there was no bomb or active-shooter threat and that nothing appeared to have been taken.
The NYPD subsequently released an image of the suspect, who remains at large.
