It's oldest surviving buildings date to the late 18th and early 19th century. In the late 19th and early 20th century, it was a gateway for immigrants and a center of transformative labor, political, and social movements. As the 20th century progressed, the neighborhood had a tremendous impact upon popular culture, with revolutionary developments in music, the arts, housing, and urban reclamation.

Much of that history remains manifest in its architecture and streetscapes, which reflect the lives of merchants, immigrants, artists, and rebels over the last two centuries. But more and more of that history is being erased or lost, and can only be preserved and protected through landmarking.

Now is the time to protect that history before it is too late.

Send an email here:

https://secure2.convio.net/gvshp/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=193VPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08864675218251697297noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5694390946037511355.post-33161637777881123042019-10-24T14:58:06.081-04:002019-10-24T14:58:06.081-04:00"There was living space for thirteen families..."There was living space for thirteen families! As for the LPC, they are as useless as our Mayor. What is it they get paid to do, exactly? Because they're not doing much in the way of preservation.Gojiranoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5694390946037511355.post-40056653515832597462019-10-24T08:48:04.367-04:002019-10-24T08:48:04.367-04:00These buildings were my favorite in the neighborho...These buildings were my favorite in the neighborhood and I loved walking down that block because of them. It makes me wonder how beautiful our neighborhood must have been when every block was lined with buildings like these.
