Ippin is closed for renovations

Several readers noted that Ippin, the sushi and noodle bar that opened at 141 First Ave. back in February, is closed for the time being ... with a sign on the gate pointing to a "renovation."

The space has been home to a series of noodle bars of late since its day as a fish market...

Iris Cafe 'closed for remodeling' one month after opening on St. Mark's Place

On St. Mark's Place, the Iris Cafe opened in the former Rockit Scientist space (RIP) in the middle of last month ... However, in recent days, the Taiwanese-style bakery with a location in Flushing has been closed... a sign on the door notes that they are "closed for remodeling." A worker hauling out trash bags yesterday said that they would be expanding their menu and reopening.

Cafe Mogador closed until Sept. 14 for renovations

And only yesterday did I learn that Cafe Mogador on St.. Mark's Place closed Monday for renovations...

Per the sign... they reopen Sept. 14...

And workers are actually renovating the space... this isn't a case where "closed for renovations" is code for "we're really closed, but don't want to tell anyone yet... so that maybe we can get a head start out of here." Or something like that.

The Beagle is closed for renovations

Missed this one... Several readers have pointed out that The Beagle on Avenue A is closed for renovations... been closed now for 10 days or so...

Restaurateur/Portlander Matthew Piacentini told Eater back on July 7 that The Beagle 2.0 "will have a full food menu to go along with the drinks." Also: "We're making the space more comfortable, adding some lovely banquettes, improving the sound level, repairing some floors and doors, that sort of thing."

The Beagle is expected to reopen in August.

It first opened here in the former Orologio space between 10th Street and 11th Street in May 2011. The Beagle's initial "pairing boards" included items such as Pressed Pig Head and Rum, Lamb Neck and Rye, and Scallop and Mezcal.

Never been here ourselves. Looked at the menu a few times and kept walking. Did you try it?

Bona Fides is closed for renovations

Bona Fides, the Italian restaurant on Second Avenue between Third and Fourth Streets, has been closed of late... The small sign out front says "closed for renovations." There isn't information about the closure on the eatery's website or Facebook page... we called, though there isn't an outgoing message.

Bona Fides has always been a reliable, unpretentious place... able to survive despite the ever-changing tastes and demographics of the neighborhood since opening in 1990...

Anyone hear about what's going on here?

Oh and, we spotted these photos on the Bona Fides Facebook page... "30 Rock" filmed a scene here for the show's 100th episode, which aired last April...

Diablo Royale Este is closed for 'renovations' this weekend

Diablo Royale Este was dark last night on Avenue A near 10th Street ...

According to the sign on the door... the Mexican-style saloon is closed for the weekend for some renovations...

On Nov. 14, the CB3/SLA committee voted not to renewal Diablo's liquor license... the bar has drawn the ire of neighbors since it opened in May 2010. (You can read more about that here.)

According to the State Liquor Authority, Diablo's liquor license expired on Wednesday.

Previously, the CB3/SLA committee turned down the request for a renewal from Heathers and TenEleven ... and in both cases, the bars received a renewal from the State Liquor Authority.

Back open Friday.

Restaurant (turnover) row on First Avenue

Yesterday, we noted that Veloce Pizzeria on First Avenue was "closed for renovations." Well! Matt Rosen at Neighborhoodr was first with the scoop last weekend ... Also yesterday! Grub Street got the word that they "will be relocating to midtown Manhattan sometime in 2012."

We also hear that the owners of Veloce Pizzeria might be keeping the space and trying another concept.

Meanwhile, there is a lot of restaurant turnover along First Avenue here between Sixth Street and Seventh Street:

L’asso EV is taking over the Bonjoo space.

• wd~50 pastry chef Alex Stupak is opening Empellon, "a fine-dining Mexican restaurant," at the former Counter.

Filipino pop-up restaurant Maharlika is the fourth restaurant to try 111 First Ave.

What gives here?

Of course, there was Teresa's, the always-reliable (and affordable) Polish diner at 103 First Ave. (which was/is Veloce Pizzeria) that closed in May 2007 ...

About Caffe Cotto's upgrade

Last Wednesday, EV Grieve reader AC noted that Caffe Cotto on Avenue C at Eighth Street is closed while management upgrades the kitchen and dining room...

When I hear "upgrade," I think, I dunno, new curtains, fresh coat of paint... new appliances?

EV Grieve contributor Bobby Williams caught a look inside...

...looks a little more extensive than that...looks like a gut renovation...

Caffe Cotto is on the CB3/SLA docket tonight for a sidewalk license.

Dash Snow tag discovered, covered

Roger's Garden on First Avenue between First Street and Second Street is now closed for renovations, as I pointed out last week...

The market was always open 24/7, which meant we never really saw the rolldown gate... But, with the closing, the gate was finally pulled down... where the Intern of EV Grieve (IOEVG) noted there is SACE art — the tag used by the late Dash Snow ... we went for a photo before the gate is painted over...

Meanwhile, workers have put up plywood around the store...
