Village Green's project runway

On Sunday, I thought there was a big Open House or something at Village Green, 11th Street's very first "eco-indulgent" condo. Seemed as if management busted out the velvet ropes to make potential condogoers feel as if they were entering a self-important hookah bar or something. Just needed a few bouncers with clipboards and headsets...

Then yesterday, there were huge lines to get in! Is there really a demand to get those remaining units?

Seriously. What? I made my way up front... and... It's Fashion Week! Uh, at least Eco Fashion Week!...

Guess it makes sense to hold this show here, in a building billed as environmentally friendly with LEED-Gold certification ...

There was a guy with a clipboard and headset... and only letting in people on some list. I'm never on any lists. So, uh, I kind of snuck in...

Anyway, roughly where the gym will be on the ground floor to the west of the lobby ...

A runway was set up for designer Joann Berman...and away it went, with eco-friendly designs made with organic materials and recyclables and what not...

That's Berman in the sunglasses below after the show...

In the end, though, I was not as successful sneaking up to see the $2 million penthouse...

Buy this 11th Street apartment building, where the residents "quiet, respectful of the property, orderly, and pay timely"

Quiet? Respectful? Orderly? When can I move in!? This 1900-era tenement on East 11th between Avenue B and Avenue C is fresh on the market for $6.7 million.

Per the listing:

Perfectly Renovated Pre-War 20 unit Building

Renovated units: (11) free market rents
#of two bedrooms: (5)
Annual rents: $ 405,900
Boiler: 3yrs.
Roof: 2yrs.

Real Estate Taxes: $26,000 approx.
Water and Sewer: $1200
Gas Tank size: 1,080

Potential rent increases (9) apartments

Maintenance is very low due to the number of renovated (11) apartments and the new systems.
Tenants are quiet, respectful of the property, orderly, and pay timely.

But are the bargoers walking back to wherever they came from as quiet and respectful?

Witnesses: Plump Dumpling delivery guy punched and robbed last night

An EV Grieve reader sent along this account from last night...

Around 9:30 pm, one of the Plump Dumpling delivery guys was punched in the face and robbed right around 329 E. 11th St. [between Second Avenue and First Avenue] on his way back from a delivery. A bunch of people saw it happen and one guy tried going after the assailant but wasn't able to catch him...

What was even more disturbing was the aftermath. The cops showed up shortly after one male witness reported it and arrived at the restaurant -- basically demanding to speak to the victim. Unfortunately, I had just seen the victim outside getting back on his bike, yelling at another delivery guy; he seemed (obviously) like he was very upset and distraught about what had just happened. Nonetheless, he left to make another delivery as the cops walked into the restaurant.

Next -- the cops were extremely rude and abrasive, asking the manager where the delivery guy was and when the manager assured them that he was coming back to talk to them, albeit in very broken English ... [the cops] started getting irrationally angry. They started interrupting the manager, raising their voices, and eventually just told the manager straight out, "Don't ever report this type of thing again" and walked out.

It was appalling and so uncomfortable to witness. Unfortunately, the guy who actually called in the report and tried to run after the robber, came in seconds after the cops left to act as a witness. I guess it is a case of "too little, too late" and honestly, a sad display of pulling rank/prejudice.

Eco-indulgent gym not quite ready for action on 11th Street

Oh! The big Village Green ad came off the front windows at, uh, Village Green, 11th Street's very first eco-indulgent, harmony of mind and body, of time and place, of luxury and lifestyle condo.

Can we see that street-level gym Wellness Center yet?!

Well. Sort of.

Dude, where's the ab lounge?

Then! The paper went back up on the windows...

Until the Wellness Center is open, you Spandex-craving peepsters will have to keep trudging over to Dolphin on Fourth Street near Second Avenue....

Plump Dumpling opens in new location

The Plump Dumpling has opened at its new location on 11th Street and Second Avenue...just steps from its former space. At the former Citi-Spaces office. Hope the Plump owners paint over that color combo...

Tully's Gluten-Free Bakery opening on East 11th Street

Those storefronts next to Veniero's on 11th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue have their tenants... the Village Veterinarian... and now, the first retail space for Tully's...

...the gluten-free bakery that has being peddling its good online and at outlets such as Zabar's. As a site called Gluten Free Atlanta reports, "Tully is an up and coming young female chef in New York City, originally from Memphis, TN, so she’s a gluten-free southern girl at heart. Diagnosed with celiac disease in 2008 and a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Austin, TX Tully’s made it her goal to create yummy gluten-free cookies and brownies that actually taste like cookies and brownies."

Oh, but so cruel to make people walk by Veniero's and Something Sweet to get here...

And, you know, Peter has a really nice selection of gluten-free desserts at Whole Earth Bakery on St. Mark's Place...

Village Veterinarian coming to 11th Street

We now know at least one of the tenants in the new storefronts on 11th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue...

Figured we were due for the 7th or 8th vintage/consignment shop along here... (not that there's anything wrong with vintage/consignments shops...)

Village Green sheds the sidewalk shed

Some day soon, Village Green, the "eco-indulgent" new condo on 11th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue, will look like this...

...where residents enjoy "serenity in the city" while cars roar up the street at 100 mph...

...and we've been eagerly awaiting what this will really look like...

And now, the sidewalk sheds have been removed...
