A French 'Heartbreaker' tonight in Tompkins Square Park

Tonight in Tompkins Square Park... Films on the Green presents another free French, uh, film... French DJ’s from WNYU will spin music before the screening, which starts around sunset (approx. 8:30) ...

Tonight — "Heartbreaker"

A description!

Pascal Chaumeil's new film "Heartbreaker" starring Romain Duris and Vanessa Paradis. It's a French romantic comedy, kind of the opposite of Hitch, about a guy who breaks up relationships for a living and falls into one in the process ... Chaumeil is also a protégé of Luc Besson, having work as second unit director on a few of his films.

EV Grieve Eatery Etc.: Taureau owner bringing new concept to East Seventh St.; Local 269 looks done

A few weeks ago, we noted that Taureau, the BYOB fondue place at 127 E. Seventh St., moved away from the East Village. The eatery relocated to 558 Broome St. Meanwhile, workers have been sanding the floors and painting the exterior and what not.

Now our friends at the Big Gay Ice Cream Shop a few storefronts away report that a familiar face is returning... the owner of Taureau, Didier Pawlicki, will open another French bistro in the space... and he hopes to have it up and running soon.

----------

[Last month]

Unfortunately, it looks like the end of Local 269, the live music venue on East Houston and Suffolk. A flood apparently KO'd their sound system. Per a reader: "Recently they were having a hard time making ends meet and paying their bills/liquor distributors and I once [saw] the manager carting in cases of beer from a local bodega."

And now, a "To be Determined" applicant is on the CB3/SLA October docket.

----------

And at the incoming Entrez on Second Avenue ... we won't have to worry about dueling phone numbers: Blue Glass notes that workers have painted the awning black... Meanwhile, they open in the next few days...

Why you'll see Catherine Deneuve dressed like a donkey tonight in Tompkins Square Park

The second and last of the Films on the Green Festival er, films in Tompkins Square Part happens tonight with a free screening of "Donkey Skin," or as I prefer [in French accent] "Peau d'Âne."

And let's just cut-n-paste this from Wikipedia ...

Peau d'Âne (English: Donkey Skin) is a 1970 French musical film directed by Jacques Demy. It is also known by the English titles Once Upon a Time and The Magic Donkey. The film was adapted by Demy from Donkeyskin, a fairy tale by Charles Perrault about a king who wishes to marry his daughter. It stars Catherine Deneuve and Jean Marais, with music by Michel Legrand.

And please, save all your Woos for Catherine Deneuve until the end of the film.

Here's a snippet of the action...

Oh. Could I buy some pot from you?

The Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the City of New York Parks & Recreation sponsor the Films on the Green series. The movie starts at 8:30 p.m. ... and is in French with English subtitles ...

And maybe buy some $1 popcorn at Ray's beforehand...

Why they'll be 'Contempt' tonight in Tompkins Square Park

As our friend Esquared told us ... the Films on the Green Festival will present a few French movies in Tompkins Square Park this summer.

And tonight: Jean-Luc Godard's "Contempt" from 1963 starring (hubba hubba!) Brigitte Bardot, Michel Piccoli and Jack Palance.

And on July 1: "Mr. Hulot's Holiday." Or, as we prefer — Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot.

The movies start at 8:30 p.m. Drink at your own risk.

Meanwhile, we're still wondering why the French hate us so much.

.

Reminders tonight: A French film in Tompkins Square Park

It's "Love Songs" (Or, "Les Chansons d'Amour") starting around 8:30...

Per the description:

In the hope of rekindling their stalled relationship, Ismael (Louis Garrel) and Julie (Ludivine Sagnier) enter a playful yet emotionally laced threesome with Alice (Clotilde Hesme). When tragedy strikes, these young Parisians are forced to deal with the fragility of life and love. For Ismael, this means negotiating through the advances of Julie's sister (Chiara Mastroianni) and those of a young college student; one of whom may offer him redemption. French (with English subtitles)

And now, for some reason...
