Spring Cleaning continues... and more people apparently feel as if it's time to toss the Christmas tree... EVG reader Melissa spotted this one today on Third Street between Avenue A and Avenue B...

Thanks to Simon Dumenco for sharing these photos today from St. Mark's Place between Avenue A and First Avenue... as he correctly notes: "It’s Easter Sunday, so it’s time for the traditional sacrificing of the Christmas trees."

Have to make room in the apartment for all the eggs...

Spotted today on Avenue A today between 11th Street and 12th Street... with the April issue of Mojo (featuring "guest editor" Keith Richards) as the means for authentification.

April 5

An EVG reader shares this festive holiday discovery on Fourth Street at Avenue B.

It's not known at the moment if the person (or people!) who discarded the tree also tossed the broken Portable Tailgating Table.

Free tree times

If you were waiting to the last minute to pick up a Christmas tree ... then you're in luck. There are many trees for the taking curbside... as more people seem to be tossing their trees early this season before heading out for the holidays elsewhere...

Nov. 21

Today seems like a good day to toss the Christmas tree from last Christmas... as tree vendors are setting up around the neighborhood, with the chance to buy a new one just hours away...

Thanks to EVG reader Bill Spector for sharing this from 11th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue.

July 8

A still-healthy-looking Christmas tree has been discarded on Seventh Street at Avenue B... Boxysean shared the top photo... while Robert Miner passed along these photos...

...including authentification with today's Times...

As you surely know, this is the second Christmas tree to be tossed in the month of July on this block.

One more and it will be a trend, enough for Gruber MacDougal, spokesperson for the International Coalition of Tree Tossing in the Spring and Summer (ICTTSS), to possibly return from Russian where he is "overseeing" the Video Assistant Referee for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Spotted on Seventh Street by Dave on 7th, who writes: "Time to declare your independence from the tree you bought for Xmas."

Just 6.03 months until Dec. 25... this one definitely could have made it until then... unless it's new for this Dec. 25, and it fell off the back of a truck or the roof of a car or something and landed here on 13th Street and Second Avenue.

Anyway! Thanks to Hudson for the discovery.

The whole summer lies ahead of us... yet someone on 10th Street between Avenue A and Avenue B thought it was a good time to toss the Christmas tree...

Thanks to Salim for the photo!

The EVG reader who shared the above photo admits that there was debate whether this discarded item on Avenue B near Fourth Street was once actually a tree used in the celebration of Christmas. (Also called a Christmas tree.) Will update the post upon any verification that traditional ornaments, such as garlands, baubles, tinsel and candy canes, were, in fact, hanging from this tree.

A Mother's Day gift

EVG regular Jose Garcia shared these photos... a discovery that he made late-last night on 11th Street between Avenue B and Avenue C...

Per Jose:

My guess is the prior caretaker(s) carried it out to dispose of it under cover of darkness.

Is there a walk of shame equivalent for discarded holiday shrubbery?

On the occasion of this Earth Day, someone apparently decided it was time to toss the holiday/Christmas tree ... as spotted by EVG regular Pinch this morning on First Avenue between Seventh Street and St. Mark's Place.

Happy Earth Day!

EVG reader Emily Mauney spotted this rather sprightly tree discarded on Avenue B and Second Street earlier today ... and sooo close to Earth Day... and Memorial Day...

EVG reader Erin spotted this wee tree today on Second Avenue and Third Street... doesn't look as if it takes up much room — why not keep it up year round...?

First Avenue and First Street today. The reader who shared the photo wasn't sure if the tree was discarded or just waiting for the M15.

Feb. 25

An EVG reader just spotted someone discarding this tree on Second Avenue between Seventh Street and St. Mark's Place... the tree still looks plenty lively a mere two months after The Big Day.

Anyway, one of the first candidates for MulchFest 2019.

So mulch for your tree: TreeCycling to happen Jan. 6-7

If you are one of those people who don't like to wait until October to toss your Christmas tree, then this info is for you.

The city is holding its annual MulchFest/TreeCycle on Jan. 6 and 7 (2018!) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tompkins Square Park is once again serving as a chipping location. Workers will chip your tree, and give you your very own bag of mulch for your protein pancakes.

The drop-off pen should be up in the Park for early discarding. Find more details here.

Oct. 16

EVG reader V.H. McKenzie spotted this Winter Wonderland just-needs-a-good-home (and some water) tree outside the neighborhood on Fifth Avenue and 12th Street tonight... still, it's noteworthy given how easily it would have been for someone to just keep this tree another two-plus months until Dec. 25.
