This holiday season, Turkey Mac is back at S'MAC

As we were first to report, Thanksgiving is coming up on Dec. 3 next Thursday, Nov. 26.

We mentioned the Thanksgiving arepa at Arepa Factory the other day…

And now at S'MAC over on East 12th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue, you can, again, order the Thanksgiving Turkey MAC …

What is it? "Juicy turkey and swiss cheese topped off with herbed stuffing (our 'in-house' recipe!). Served with a side of homemade gravy and cranberry jelly." (It is available as gluten-free too…)

Find the details here.

This Thanksgiving, you can have a Thanksgiving arepa

Via the EVG inbox…

The newly opened Arepa Factory (147 Avenue A near East 9th Street) puts a Venezuelan twist on Thanksgiving with a Turkey Day feast you can hold in the palm of your hand. A sweet potato-corn flour Thanksgiving Arepa filled with turkey, gravy, stuffing and cranberry sauce will be available from Tuesday, Nov. 17 through Monday, Nov. 30 for $12.95 (note: Arepa Factory is closed Thanksgiving Day).

Arepa Factory, which opened in October, puts a modern, healthy spin on this traditional Venezuelan dish. Owner Monica Muzzo, a native of Venezuela, designed Arepa Factory to be an authentic Arepera, a casual spot for takeout and dine-in where arepas are filled to order in front of you – with a twist. Chef Rafael I. De Garate oversees a menu that marries Venezuelan tradition with new creative ingredient combinations inspired by the diversity of cultures in New York.

Thanksgiving dining deal season underway

[Photo yesterday by EVG Dining Correspondent Steven]

We're just five weeks out now to Thanksgiving … and Dallas BBQ on Second Avenue at St. Mark's Place just might be the first local restaurant to fire up its Thanksgiving Dinner Specials… the Thanksgiving Dinner Banner arrived on the sidewalk yesterday…

Looks like a good deal for $15.99, though, strangely, nothing will be BBQ'd.

How you can help the Bowery Mission this holiday season

The Bowery Mission is prepping to serve its 135th Thanksgiving.

According to the Times, the Mission's volunteer slots are full, but they are accepting donations 24/7 at 227 Bowery near Prince Street.

Per the Times:

Milk, butter and eggs are especially welcome; they’ve got the turkeys and potatoes covered.

Pork, beef and chicken are also gladly received, as the charity continues to serve three meals a day.

There are other ways to donate year-round at the Bowery Mission. Find that list here.

Meanwhile, Gothamist compiled a list of places where you can donate and volunteer this holiday season. Head right here.

Thanksgiving at Odessa

We've eaten our Thanksgiving dinner at Odessa several times now in recent years ... and this year will likely be no different.

They've finally upped the price a few bucks ... still a good deal for all the food that you get here at 119 Avenue A.

Anyway, we always liked the homemade sign that they must stow away for every Thanksgiving ...

Wish you were here, mostly

Happy Thanksgiving and all that.

In case you are looking to buy the ol' [insert your name here!] family holiday tree on Thanksgiving

You're in luck! You can find some at St. Mark's Market...

Whole Foods Bowery ($50 for a Fraser Fir!)...

...and a new treecomer on Second Avenue in front of Jupiter 21...

No trees just yet at the Trailer Park Santa stand on First Avenue and East 14th Street...

There are likely more stands up. Maybe outside Rite Aid on First Avenue?

Anyway! Buy early, discard early, and pretend it is leftover from December 2012... win a prize.

Today at EVG favorite the Stage Restaurant at 128 Second Ave. … turkey served with sweet potato stuffing, one vegetable, mushroom gravy, cranberry sauce, pie or cake, and coffee of tea — $14.25.

And tomorrow you can compare it to the Odessa's Thanksgiving special.

Still the best Thanksgiving deal around

We've written before about the Odessa's Thanksgiving day special … quite a feast for the money… we've eaten here several times on Thanksgiving before (when we didn't go to the Blarney Cove or the race track) … and the $15.95 price tag has stayed consistent through the recent years too...

Your Thanksgiving — (not really) planned

As we exclusively reported, Thanksgiving is two weeks from today (and when did that happen?).

So to help make planning your day easier, we note the Thanksgiving Day "swirling hours" at PinkBerry on St. Mark's Place.

Thanksgiving for Sandy Survivors

Volunteers are at St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery preparing for the free Thanksgiving meal for people displaced by Superstorm Sandy... 1-4 today...

Per @AMDuross on Twitter — 11am lots of people from EV and other neighborhoods rolling in with donations. Smells amazing.

1 idea for a last-minute Thanksgiving meal

The Odessa on Avenue A...

I'm not aware of a better deal around... considering the amount of food that you get... I've eaten here several times on Thanksgiving in recent years... And they haven't changed the price (or sign) for several years. Sorry, no Crushed Almond-Sweet Potato Puree & Huckleberry with Shaved Nutmeg here...

Oh, and has anyone ever taken part in the Thanksgiving feast at Ukrainian East Village on Second Avenue? This looks tempting as well...

A Thanksgiving meal for Sandy survivors at St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery

A group of local residents are teaming up with Jessica Alfreds Homemade to organize a Thanksgiving Dinner for people who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy ... and won't have the ability to cook their own Thanksgiving dinners due to a lack of power, gas ... or inability to get into their homes in the East Village/Lower East Side.

From the EV Grieve inbox...

Date: Thanksgiving

Time: 1-4 p.m. (or until the food is gone)

Location: St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery, Second Avenue at East 10th Street

If you are willing to roll up your sleeves, donate, connect us to people/companies that can provide us with what we need, or help spread the word all is welcome and appreciated. Please click here to find out more about Thanksgiving for Sandy Survivors.
