Octoberfest starts today at Zum Schneider on Avenue C and East Seventh Street ... doors open in a sec at 11:30 ... four people were waiting at 10 a.m. ... and soon enough...

Around 12:45, some 30 people were waiting for Zum Schneider to open at Seventh Street and Avenue C. Euro Cup 2012 quarter-finals this afternoon — Germany-Greece at 2:45.

Doors opened at 1 for the championship game at 2:45 between the United States and Japan. A CNN truck in parked out front... to bring live reports during the game...

And if the U.S. team wins, then we're taking the fire truck!

There was a healthy line forming here on Avenue C at Seventh Street a few hours before... ZS opens at 1. And tomorrow is the last day for Octoberfest.

So, here on Seventh Street and Avenue C, German-loving, World-Cup-watching, bratwurst-eating... uh, Zum Schneider is celebrating its 10-year anniversary...

Last night, the Zummers roasted a pig on Avenue C....they'll do the same on Sunday afternoon....

When dogs poop near diners outside Zum Schneider

Yesterday afternoon, the folks here on Seventh Street outside Zum Schneider were enjoying some food and drinks...



...when along came a young woman with a fairly large dog, who proceded to befoul the sidewalk right near the tables... without as much as slowing down, the woman continued on her way, turning south on Avenue C... the diners at the table on the far left above were fairly horrified/angry... one yelled something like, "Hey, your dog just took a dump. You have to clean that up."

I cannot say whether the woman was simply lazy or poorly mannered... or if this was an act of aggression toward touristy people eating outdoors...

I did not photograph any of the evidence or the dog owner in question. You'll have to trust me on this one.

Saturday afternoon at Zum Schneider without the World Cup

OK, so it was also early afternoon and hot ... not to mention a summer Saturday... was more crowded later, of course...

Anyway, I had been used to seeing this the last month on weekend mornings ...

The line to get into Zum Schneider this morning

For the Germany-Argentina match. Wow. Much longer than last week's line. One Zum Schneider regular said this was the longest line that she'd ever seen here, including Octoberfest...the line streches west halfway up Seventh Street.






If you're in the back of the line now, then I'd suggest you watch the match elsewhere...

Germany 4, England 1, Avenue C 0

A little while ago after Germany beat England 4-1 in the World Cup... German fans celebrate on Avenue C and Seventh Street after watching the match at Zum Schneider and Alphabet City Lounge....








The cops drove by and paid no mind...

You have "No Chance" of getting into Zum Schneider this morning

That was the word from a Zum Schneider waitress a little bit ago...Hundreds were on hand for England-Germany in the World Cup... Actually, she was nice about it...she told the people waiting outside the already-full Zum to go to another bar so they wouldn't miss the match...




...the line stretched around Avenue C and west on Seventh Street...
