Holiday road

Bobby Williams notes that workers yesterday put up the holiday lights on St. Mark's Place between Second Avenue and Third Avenue. Or else Japadog is really going all out for its opening next month ...

7B for the holidays

Yesterday, we spotted workers hanging up the holiday lights and what not at 7B....

...and a little later...

The inside looks festive as always too....

(And that woman was out front who always asks me for different amounts of change every day... like 85 cents one day, 15 cents the next...do you remember her name?)

City workers remove holiday lights before Easter comes calling

City workers have arrived at Tompkins Square Park this morning to remove the holiday lights... really.

Previously on EV Grieve:
On St. Patrick's Day, a Christmas miracle in Tompkins Square Park

On St. Patrick's Day, a Christmas miracle in Tompkins Square Park

Upon walking in Tompkins Square Park last night... I was, quite frankly, not surprised, to see the holiday tree all lit up for the first time in a few months...

I noticed in January that no one had actually ever removed all the lights... and the extension cord was still lying there...

So, a fellow decided to take a rest under the tree last evening, and he apparently plugged in the tree...

Tompkins Square Park holiday tree goes dark

Last year, the Christmas tree lights were turned off on the Tompkins Square Park tree on Feb. 7.

This year, the lights were extinguished this past week...

The lights are still on the tree, though. So you could probably go turn it on...

The holidays on ice....

The holiday decorations on Ninth Street at Second Avenue came down this morning...

...ruining a potential blog post when I discovered that they were still up in April...

Twas six weeks before...

Not really ready for the holidays...which may be why I didn't even notice that holiday lights went up last week on East Fourth Street and East Third Street...(and probably elsewhere too...)

Happy holidays!

Or maybe these holiday lights on First Avenue near Fourth Street have been up for a long time and I just noticed them Sunday...? Just being honest. Anyway, let's just skip Halloween and Thanksgiving and get to the Big Stuff!

Tompkins Square Park Christmas tree update

On Saturday, the Christmas tree in Tompkins Square Park was turned off after nearly two months...

On closer inspection Sunday...

...the lights are still on the tree...

So maybe someone can plug it in for Valentine's Day.

'Tis the season for keeping ConEd in business: The holiday lights are up at Rolf's

One of my favorite NYC holiday traditions. The over-the-top holiday lights -- some 70,000 light bulbs in total -- and Victorian-era tchochkes went up at Rolf's last week. For the last month, a few members of the staff at the French-Bavarian eatery at 231 Third Ave. at 22nd Street have been putting up the decorations after hours...they'll be on display until the middle of January. The restaurant opened in 1958, and the lights apparently started going up a few years after that...(at times, it still feels like 1958 in here...). Anyway! The lights!

It gets horribly crowded at Rolf's during the holidays, of course...Just grab a seat at the bar (if you can during off-peak hours)...the food is too heavy for my tastes (hmmm, suckling pig), unless I'm trying to spike the LDL level in my bloodstream. In any event, if Rolf's is mobbed, Paddy Macguire's down the street -- between 19th and 20th -- is a decent alternative for drinks during the holidays. They have some lights as well -- and a much smaller carbon footprint.
