Old firehouse on East 11th Street no longer really looks like an old firehouse

In January, we posted about the former firehouse converted into residences on East 11th Street just east of Avenue B... two units were available to rent... the space is no longer on the market ...

... and it no longer has that firehouse look out front — workers painted it black yesterday.

Apparently black is in for former firehouses-turned-residences in NYC — just ask Anderson Cooper.

Updated: Dave on 7th notes that this space is now home, in part, to ALLDAYEVERYDAY, an integrated marketing communications and entertainment company whose clients include Michael Kors, Gawker Media and Cee Lo, among many others.

Live in this historic East Village synagogue (with hot tub) for $25K

Step right up here on East Eighth Street between Avenue B and C... and behold this "spectacular fourplex" ...

The Town listing is ...

One of the city's last tenement Shuls, now a chic landmarked building, this former synagogue was brilliantly transformed into a magnificent home in 2005 by world-famous designers from the Ian Shrager Hotels – earning recognition in Architectural Record for its extraordinary transformation, and attracting the likes of press, politicians and entertainment figures. Yours to rent is the exquisite result of their top-of-the-line gut renovation...

Other distinctive features that make this sun-drenched residence such a unique work of art are its custom-made windows that are exact replicas of when the building was a synagogue (including the Star of David!), and luxurious touches that include Brazilian hardwood cherry floors, hand-poured Brazililan glass mosaic tiles by Vidrotil, beautiful Wenge wood paneling, radiant floor heating, floor-to-ceiling steel cased windows and doors (the list goes on).

I'll say!

A three-six month lease available starting July 1. And as the headline says, it's $25,000 per month.

If you ever wanted to own a house and garden as seen in House & Garden

Over at 119 E. 10th St. (Central Village!), this home hit the market last week. Here's part of the Corcoran listing:

As featured in House & Garden: Uniquely special, garden level, 1 bedroom with office in a historic brownstone on the loveliest block in the East Village. Upon entering this very special apartment through your private gate, one is instantly transported to a retreat in the country.

... Continue through to the dining area complete with a wall of casement windows framing the view to the Old World, common garden behind and a Dutch door opening directly to this spectacularly private oasis.

Here are a few photos of Old World East Village...

Of course, the home doesn't come with an Old-World price: $1.7 million for one bedroom and 1.5 bathrooms.

Enter the boom-boom room?

There's a newish listing for a penthouse apartment at the Petersfield on Fourth Avenue near East 12th Street... and it's as nice as you might expect from a place that's $7,750 a month.

I think.

You see, I haven't made it past this bedroom.

Triangular mirror facing bed. Candles. Brown furry throw blanket. Bear skin rug. It's as if the realtors asked a, say, 24-year-old shipping heir to stage the photos for the listing.

Anyway, you can see the apartment for yourself during an open house Friday evening and late Sunday afternoon.

Another feature on one of those really nice Flowerbox Building homes

[Elizabeth Felicella for Trendland]

We've seen several features on this 2,400-square-foot duplex home in the Flowerbox Building on Seventh Street between Avenue C and Avenue D... (For example, the Times featured the home in 2009.)

The young couple's home popped up yesterday in a spread at Trendland. Lots of Pinterest in this.

Among other features, the condo has a wall of ivy along the interior balcony that overlooks a 12-foot-long reflecting pool stocked with goldfish.

Take a bath, get transported to Italy

Oh, just pointing out a listing for a two-bedroom home at 119 E. 10th Street — "central village" as the listings always list ... Nice place. Which is what you'd expect for $6,000 in rent per month.

Per the listing:

With two wood burning fireplaces, North and South views and a bathroom which transports you to Italy, this home will not disappoint!

Your chance to live in an old firehouse on East 11th Street

There's an old firehouse converted into residences on East 11th Street just east of Avenue B...

...and two of the floor-through spaces are now on the market...

Interesting space with skylights, roof deck, etc., though you'll be paying for it...

Here is the $7,000-per-month unit...

And the $7,500-per-month unit...

Spotted these two listings at Streeteasy ... Per the listing at Bold New York, looks as if you can snag the whole building for $24,000 monthly ... Apparently Anderson Cooper has made living in old firehouses, uh, hot...

Community gardens main selling point for million-dollar condo on East Eighth Street

So this two-bedroom condo with a balcony... an in-unit washer-dryer ... Zuma soaking tubs ... Peitra Cardoza counters in the kitchen... is for sale over on East Eighth Street near Avenue C.

With all these fine amenities, what does the listing start with?

"Surrounded by community gardens and a half block from Tompkins Square Park, 331 East 8th offers high design and functionality in a stunning environment."

Noted a very special friend of EV Grieve: "It does sound better than 'surrounded by blocks that would have gotten you killed 20 years ago...'"

Anyway, it's going for $1.299 million... and you're in luck — there's an open house tonight from 5:30-7.

Live in the house that inspired the art for 'If You Give a Mouse a Cookie'

Yes, that's the bonus trivia question that comes with this lovely house at 264 Seventh St. between Avenue C and Avenue D.

According to the Corcoran listing: 'Felicia Bond lived in the Garden Duplex when she illustrated the renowned children's book 'If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.'"

Otherwise, the rest of the place:

Currently set up as a parlor floor duplex with back yard and two floor through apartments, this classic townhouse is a great investment property or could be made into your own single family home! 48 Hours Notice required to view.

Now you can live in the home of Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch, a.k.a. Roman and Williams

And we're assuming without them around under foot. So, here, on the fourth floor of 25 E. Fourth St. off the Bowery is the home of Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch, a.k.a. Roman and Williams, the design team behind the Standard Hotel (including the Standard Grill and the 18th Floor Club), the Ace Hotel and the redesign of the Royalton Hotel lobby.

And, as the Stribling listing shows, this is a big deal!

Here is a rare opportunity to live in a treasure of contemporary design history. This full-floor loft is the home of Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch, a.k.a. Roman and Williams, one of the most significant and era-defining design teams of the 21st Century. The space has four glorious exposures, sun-flooded light from 14 windows and open south and east views. It features a windowed cook's kitchen with six-burner range, a tranquil living room, a studio, and a walk-in closet. Most of all, it includes all of the Roman and Williams furnishings, collectibles and custom design elements that have made this loft famous. More than a residence, it is a magic environment. Located in wicked hot NoHo, between Lafayette Street and the Bowery, 25 East 4th Street is proximate to great restaurants, clubs and shopping. This property is one of one.

So how do hip designers, uh, design their own home?

And it can be your home for $3.5 million.

Live like a Stuyvesant, and own a piece of East Village history

A historic home is now on the market at 25 Stuyvesant Street.

How historic? Per the listing at Brown Harris Stevens:

Petrus Stuyvesant laid out the street plan for the development of his property in 1787, naming several nearby streets after his children, Judith, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Cornelia. His son, Peter, would famously go on to found the New York Historical Society while his grandson, Hamilton Fish, born at 21 Stuyvesant Street, would later become Governor of New York and then Secretary of State for eight years.

Designed by renowned New York architect James Renwick, Jr., who went on to design St. Patrick's Cathedral and Grace Church among many other buildings, the Anglo-Italianate row of 23-35 Stuyvesant Street was completed in 1861 as part of the larger "triangle" formed by the point where East 10th Street meets Stuyvesant.

But what about the house? Well, in part:

Retaining its elegant and thoughtful single-family floor plan, 25 Stuyvesant Street is approximately 3380 square feet inside, built 16' x 39' on a 59 foot deep lot with six levels, including the garden level, plus the basement for mechanicals and storage. There is a grand stoop entry as well as a second entrance below the stoop leading to the garden level.

The parlour floor has ceilings which measure 10' 10" with beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows, and an original medallion decorating the ceiling. There is an original marble surround on the wood-burning fireplace. With a full bath at the top of the stairs, the main living room in front connects to a library via an arched entryway also with original pocket doors.

This is so "Upstairs Downstairs" sounding, sort of. And there's isn't any kicker, such as, "Good investment property to tear down and build an NYU dorm." And it's yours for $4.5 million.

An Italianate-style townhouse and an old Maple tree on East Fifth Street

Here's a townhouse that has been for sale now the last month on one of my favorite blocks in the neighborhood — East Fifth Street between Avenue A and Avenue B...

It's going for $3.95 million. Here are details:

Italianate style townhouse tucked into a quiet block of the burgeoning East Village. There is a lovely front courtyard with a half century old maple tree. With it's large extension on all four floors, this house offers over 6300 square feet of living space. Due to the configuration of the extension, the home has four exposures on the upper three floors and three exposures on the garden level. Original mantels, window frames, baseboards and original floors have been preserved on many floors. Currently there is an owner's duplex, two floor through apartments and a front garden apartment. A charming garden meanders along the east of the property and opens up in the rear. There is also potential for a wonderful roof deck. This townhouse is delivered vacant and is perfect for conversion to a wonderful single or two family home
.

In fact, there's an open house today from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Of course, the last townhouse that I really liked on this block — just a few doors to the east — was torn down to make way for a Williamsburgate condo.

On Avenue C, get a Tetsu Ohara-designed home with 'potential terrace'

Hmm. Here at 149 Avenue C, there's a one-bedroom co-op new to the market for $525,000. Here's a listing:

Quality, Perfection (and perhaps a terrace!) This gorgeous renovated home exudes style and is perfectly located in the hippest part of the East Village only 1 1/2 blocks from Tompkins Square Park. Meticulously designed by Tetsu O'Hara, this home boasts subtle carefully placed angles that invoke intrigue as you examine the space more closely. The sleek hand crafted wall cabinet provides a clear focal point and is backlight for evening ambience. The exposed brick adds warmth and the three exposures add natural light. The beautiful kitchen features maple cabinets, Corian counters, a Miele cooktop and a showpiece Grohe faucet. The windowed bathroom is classic white with a green glass tile border and there is a walk in closet in the master bedroom. This is an exceptional opportunity to possibly acquire rights to build a private deck on an adjacent 10x12 ft outdoor space (subject to board approval).

So you'd build this terrace on someone else's outdoor space? Oh, and it's Tetsu Ohara, not O'Hara. He's Japanese, not Irish. Anyway, pretty nice looking space...

See for yourself during the first open house on Sunday from noon to 1:30 p.m. You'll be out before the boozehounds show up for the free booze at the Sunburnt Cow.

East Fifth Street co-op with Japanese maples out back reduced now by 40 percent

Here's a lovely little one-bedroom at 513 E. Fifth St. ... with a private backyard... You could roll out of bed and practically be in Sophie's... or maybe hop the fence and be in Joe's...

I suppose there are other amenities too.
Per Corcoran:

Investor Friendly Coop with private back yard! Great Investment Opportunity, rent out right away! No board approval, all cash required. Prime East Village renovated one bedroom with a huge sun flooded private garden, totaling over 1100 sqft. This newly renovated one bed/one bath coop offers a tranquil indoor space with plenty of pre-war details, including exposed brick, hardwood floors and high ceilings. Recently renovated kitchen and bath create a nice relationship of pre-war detail with modern amenities, such as Bosch dishwasher, washer and dryer and well appointed closets with storage space. Move from the beautiful indoor space directly into your outdoor oasis, which has been designed by a landscape architect and features wood decking, a separate fieldstone patio, and Japanese maples among other year round and seasonal plantings.

This coop is located around the corner from Tompkins Square Park as well as several other East Village gardens, restaurants, and shopping. There is no board approval and flexible purchasing is allowed, purchasing for someone else, investment, guarantors and pied-a-terres are all fine. This building is pet friendly.

And the price continues to fall...since February, the price has come down some 40 percent, according to Streeteasy...

02/17/2010 -- Listed by Corcoran at $650,000.
03/24/2010 -- Price decreased by 8% to $599,000.
06/10/2010 -- Price decreased by 17% to $499,000.
08/05/2010 -- Price decreased by 15% to $425,000.

No takers yet for this oasis? Maybe it's the neighbors?
