Updated: Now that is a sinkhole on 1st Avenue and 7th Street

Crews are on the scene this afternoon to tend to the sinkhole that formed nearly in the middle of the intersection here on First Avenue and Seventh Street thanks to a broken pipe... looks like traffic is down to one lane for now... and perhaps the near future.

Thanks to @Cool666_ for the photo!

And Mr. John is on the scene — this is a big job, this sinkhole.

Also: Seventh Street is closed to vehicles for now between First Avenue and Second Avenue.

Awaiting repairs for a sidewalk vault on 4th Street

Here's a quick look at 125 E. Fourth St., the site of a partial sidewalk collapse this past Dec. 16.

A worker at the Ultra Nail Beauty Salon reportedly was preparing to open the shop around 10:40 a.m. here between First Avenue and Second Avenue when a 5x4 section of the sidewalk caved in, sending the worker plunging into the building's basement. (Her injuries were apparently not life-threatening.)

According to the Daily News, the DOB issued "aggravated violations" to the property owner for failing "to maintain the building in a safe manner." (This is a co-op building. Public records list the owner as: 125 East 4th Street Owner Corp.)

There doesn't appear to be much activity taking place outside the storefronts. There is, however, an approved work permit on file with the DOB for "replacement of sidewalk vault."

For now, the nail salon remains shuttered. Manny's Barber Shop is for rent...

However, Manny was able to move into the empty space next door shortly after the collapse...

Also on this side of the block, closer to First Avenue, Icon Realty is now renting the former Lavender Mini Spa space...

The asking rent is $6,000 for 600 square feet, per the listing.

Partial vacate order and violations for sidewalk-collapse building on 4th Street

A few more details have emerged regarding the partial sidewalk collapse outside 125 E. Fourth St. Saturday morning.

According to the Daily News, a worker at the nail salon was preparing to open the shop around 10:40 a.m. here between First Avenue and Second Avenue when a 5x4 section of the sidewalk caved in, sending the worker plunging into the building's basement.

The city issued a partial vacate order at the address, which temporarily closes the salon and the adjacent business, Manny's Barber Shop.

Per the News: The Department of Buildings issued "aggravated violations" to the property owner for failing '"to maintain the building in a safe manner." Public records show a court date of Feb. 1.

This is a co-op building. Public records list the owner as: 125 East 4th Street Owner Corp.

So long to the great sinkhole at the 8th Street entrance to Tompkins Square Park

You'd never really know that anything was ever sinking here at the Eighth Street and Avenue B entrance, which was closed for nearly two months while the repairs were made...

Your weekly update on the Tompkins Square Park sinkhole

The first two photos are from Wednesday evening at the Eighth Street/Avenue B entrance to Tompkins Square Park...

... and today...

Have you seen anyone work on the month-old sinkhole this past week? Doesn't seems as if there was much, if any, progress this week.

That sinkhole feeling

Back on Wednesday, workers started making repairs on the sinkhole at the Eighth Street/Avenue B entrance to Tompkins Square Park... there hasn't been any work on the hole since then.

It appears there is still a broken section of pipe, per these photos from today ...

No one is around to ask... so no word on what the delay might be. Waiting for a part?

Also, as you can see in the top photo, there were a lot of pigeons to the left of the hole... it appears that someone fed them...

Developing: Activity at the Tompkins Square Park sinkhole; the Crazy Stallion connection

Thanks you for all the emails, tweets and Instagrams... noting that there is activity at the site of the Tompkins Square Park sinkhole at the Avenue B/Eighth Street entrance. The photos here are by EVG correspondent Steven. Updates to follow, unless nothing else happens.

And for those of you concerned about the status of the trashcan the sinkhole swallowed... it appears to be in good shape... ready to collect trash again after a stint in PT...

Also, we can exclusively reveal what else was inside the sinkhole...

Tompkins Square Park sinkhole awaiting new pipe

On Saturday, workers began digging out the 4-week-old sinkhole at the Eighth Street/Avenue B entrance to Tompkins Square Park.

A worker said that he was making way for the plumbers to fix the vitrified clay pipe (guessing!) installed during the Cleveland administration that broke.

Unfortunately, the plumber apparently couldn't make it today. The hole remains uncovered, awaiting new pipe...

The good news is the trashcan that the sinkhole swallowed has been safely retrieved.

Repairs underway on (in?) Tompkins Square Park sinkhole

Workers are at the Eighth Street/Avenue B entrance to Tompkins Square Park ... starting repairs on the sinkhole that has closed this corridor the past three-four weeks...

A worker told EVG correspondent Steven, who took these photos, that he's clearing out the sinkhole for the plumbers to fix the pipe that broke... and some photos of that broken pipe...

No word on when the plumbers might be here.

Checking in on the Tompkins Square Park sinkhole

The one at the Eighth Street/Avenue B entrance... now in its third smash week...

We weren't able to measure the sinkhole's circumference to see if it is expanding, and if surrounding properties, such as St. Brigid's, are in danger of being swallowed...

Trash can-swallowing sinkhole keeping 8th Street entrance to Tompkins Square Park shut down

The entrance to Tompkins Square Park on Avenue B at Eighth Street is still blocked off... last week, a sign, since removed, noted that the entrance is closed "due to repair."

No repair yet... and either the sinkhole is getting larger or the trash can is getting smaller... Or both! And hopefully the Parkgoer will finish his newspaper before the hole expands...

Flashback to last Sunday!
