Soon, you'll be able to go No. 1 or No. 2 at First and First — for 25 cents
The Villager has the poop on an item on this month's CB3 agenda. As Lesley Sussman reports, the Department of Transportation plans to install an Automatic Public Toilet (A.P.T.) at the southeast corner of First Avenue and First Street on the small concrete island that separates Houston and First Streets.
Per The Villager:
The first A.P.T. was installed three years ago in Madison Square Park and is one of 20 D.O.T. plans for the city. There are currently three A.P.T.’s in operation.
The toilet is self-cleaning and would cost 25 cents to use. Operating hours would be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. — not much solace for clubgoers after a night of beer swigging.

Toilet humor
Grub Street's Daniel Maurer notes that the three restrooms at the Ninth Ward are labeled either Sex, Drugs or Rock & Roll.

Even Porta-Potties get makeovers on the Bowery these days
Yesterday, BoweryBoogie and Curbed checked in on the progress at 257 Bowery, home of the new Sperone Westwater Gallery...
Meanwhile, to the important story here. I've been keeping tabs on the Call-A-Head for the construction workers at street level ... Even by Porta-Potty standards, this one was pretty sub-standard... But! Like many things on the Bowery of late, it had been converted.
...with the potential for a breeze...
And I finally got a look inside the space the other evening...
Not sure how much the owners are paying a square foot, but I do like what they have done with the limited space...

Flush with success: Cabin Down Below open again
A sign was up today for the Cabin Down Below at the former Pizza Shop space. Which must mean the great toilet overflow from last weekend has been corrected. Which means they were open this weekend....

Well, given the previous post, might as well just post this too
At this point, I'm not even trying anymore
FANCY portapoopers were brought in for the overflow crowd at the Spin/ John Varvatos bash the other evening on the Bowery. So much for just peeing in Extra Place.

No. 2 to go
Back on June 1 (or 47 inches of rain ago), I mentioned that a new thai place was coming to 347 E. 14th St. (near First Avenue), the site of the former Mambo Italiano Pizzeria (AKA, the sad pizza place). Well, work continues there...
I just hope that they move the restroom — or at least invest in a bathroom door.

Toilet training
Found on the sidewalk on Avenue C between Eighth Street and Ninth Street...Dunno which building has the tenants who are flushing things other than waste and toilet paper down the toilet. I cropped out the footprint. Which may have been a mistake. A clue!
