1 floor down, 12 to go at 347 Bowery

The last time that we checked in on 347 Bowery in March, a cheap Penistrator knockoff saw fit to degrade the renderings on the plywood here at East Third Street by drawing a large [redacted].

We've come a long way since then. The building is now visible above the plywood…

A quick recap: Workers demolished the Salvation Army's former East Village Residence that was on this corner … to make way for a 13-story, 30,000 square-foot mixed-use residential development.

Per developer Urban Muse, the project will feature five 3-bedroom homes ranging from 2,100 to 4,000 square feet, two 2,000-square-foot commercial units and one 6,800-square-foot retail unit.

Annabelle Selldorf, who designed the nearby 10 Bond Street, is listed as the architect of record.

The lone rendering that we've seen looks to give neighbor 52E4 — the 15 stories of condo on the Bowery and East Fourth Street — some skyline company. The lot adjacent to 347 Bowery at 1-3 E. Third St. is also for sale as a development site.

Border this: Aspiring Penistrator looking for tri-state dominance, or something

DNAinfo has a cool map thing (as Curbed might call it!) that lets readers/residents use an interactive map to draw where they think their neighborhood's borders are.

Given the debates around the East Village about borders, specifically where Midtown South ends and New York Harbor begins, we're curious to see the results.

Anyway, all good...

EVG reader Tad took a shot at drawing the EV borders. And what did he see upon submitting his outline? For starters, the borders that other readers drew... as well as a very large...

You guys!

We checked a few other neighborhoods, and only noticed the work of a wannabe Penistrator in (or hovering over) the East Village section. (Oh, and the Pac-Man eating Atlantic Avenue.)

Per Tad: "Given the state of our neighborhood, this seems about right."

Developers likely not thrilled by this pop-up rendering on the Bowery

[EVG photo from January]

Well, you know, a 13-story, 30,000 square-foot mixed-use residential development is in the works for 347 Bowery.

And someone, likely just a cheap Penistrator knockoff, saw fit to degrade the renderings on the plywood here at East Third Street by drawing a large [redacted].

Thankfully workers had painted over the offending doodle before any more harm could be done...

[Updated] Hard up for attention, Penistrator imitator strikes on slow news weekend

EVG regular Spike was out enjoying the quiet, picturesque snowfall last night when he came upon this ...

The Penistrator Imitator left this one on East Second Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue. There's never just one. Dicks never travel alone. Anyone else spot one this x-rated snowffiti?

Winter Friday flashback: The East Village Penistrator finally gaining attention of the international community

On Fridays this winter, and probably spring and summer ... we'll post one of the 16,000-plus EVG, uh, posts from yesteryear, like this one from Jan. 28, 2009...

Thanks to the good people at the River blog for reporting on this news that deserves global coverage, especially overseas. Anyway, my Italian isn't so good. So I have no idea what this post says.

Our intern ran the post through The Yahoo! Babelfish translator...and it goes something like this:
-----
To Rome on the dirty cars there is who writes "washes to me", or more varying others veraci. To New York, from some time, there was a joker who went designing make them and an other series of "obscenity" on the parked cars. After a big wave of collective curiosity, of the case the net has been taken care also pettegolezza of Tmz, that it has sguinzagliato for Manhattan its photographers. At the end the graffitaro-penologo has been pecked: it would be such Haley Joel Osment, university student and protagonist of "The Sixth Sense".

Billie Joe has a boner

Also today today in important news items... it was inevitable that someone would deface the John Varvatos/Green Day ad on the old CBGB Gallery space ...

And, sure enough, a Penistrator imitator doodled on Billie Joe Armstrong...

Breaking: EV Grieve did not win the Mega Millions

Of course, we never even bought any tickets. Still, you never know. The winning tickets for the $640-million jackpot were from Maryland, Kansas and Illinois. (Just think: $640 million is roughly 3 percent of Mayor Bloomberg's $22 billion net worth!)

In any event, we did enjoy some of the homemade signs with updates during the Mega-Millions frenzy

And, here on Second Street and Avenue A, the Penistrator, or a clever imitator, did this last week...

And, to telegraph it...

Turns out the Penistrator did taint the first snowfall of the year

Our correspondents kept a watchful eye out for any sign of The Penistrator or various copycats after yesterday's Storm of the Saturday® ... Finally, reports are coming in from the field... on St. Mark's Place between Avenue A and First Avenue...

Looks as if we're in for another long winter.

[EVG Flashback] An EV Grieve investigative report: In search of the Penistrator

Originally posted on Jan. 20, 2009...

In cooperation with the National Weather Service, we arranged for it to snow this past weekend. Why? We were hoping to capture the increasingly notorious Penistrator, a brazen snowffiti artist who is leaving his (or her? Nah) mark on unsuspecting cars throughout the neighborhood. We hired a profiler to help us in the case. His thoughts: "Based on scant evidence, keep on the lookout for what is likely a white male, Floridian, football fan, in his 20s who may be resentful of the fact that he doesn't have his car in the city."

And so, with the snowfall Saturday night, we began the quest. On first watch we saw a suspicious-looking figure lurking near the site of the original snowffiti on Seventh Street near Avenue B...

Having been spotted, he beat a retreat. The cars were left unmolested. But for how long?

Until Sunday night ... when we arranged for another 1-2 inches of snow to fall on the area. Given our profiler's belief that the Penistrator is a football fan, we also arranged for two high-profile NFL games to be played Sunday.

This combination of snow, football and, possibly, large amounts of alcohol, was all the Penistrator needed... as you can see from this wide path of penistruction on 13th Street that stretches from Third Avenue all the way to Avenue B.

Another clue: An Eagles fan?

And is he adding a new body part to his repertoire?

With the Super Bowl and more snow on the horizon...there's every reason to think this will continue...

The Penistrator is letting the fame go to his head

How else to explain this gargantuan snowpenis spotted on 12th Street between First Avenue and Avenue A?

EV Grieve reader Mike, who sent along the photo, notes (correctly), that "I'm sure the proud owner of the car will have no trouble selling the bits of snow he brushes off on eBay!"

A weekend for dicks

Well, I'm not sure how to explain this past weekend... cabin fever, perhaps, or Rush Week, but the neighborhood seemed to be full of more jackasses than usual... (We talked about it via Twitter)

In this environment, The Penistrator was free to flourish... There were sightings reported all over the neighborhood...

[Thanks to @patty_chung for this photo on East 10th Street]

Meanwhile, sorta on the topic... Bob Arihood notes the results of a beer-swollen bladder on East Fourth Street this past weekend...
