Another view of the coming recession

Last Tuesday, Jeremiah had a post with a photo of "the recession" graffiti at the "coming soon" Capital One branch on 8th Street and University. Meanwhile, I just saw the front page of last Friday's Washington Square News:

I really like this shot by WSN photog Ben Norman. Perhaps this will be one of the iconic images of this time in NYC...

  1. It's a nice image, a rebellious thought. But now they've got cameras on every corner, cameras in the sky, new buildings with fancy security. Crap, I was taking pics of the new Varvatos evil that replaced CBGB's and a well suited sec. guard eyed me like he was about to shoot. Damn, like Dennis Hopper almost said, this used to be a great city.

  2. and while I am ranting...it always amazes me when newcomers to NYC laugh or act with derision when we complain about the loss of our city. Like new banks, CVS, and shopping malls on every corner is such a great thing in a city that used to have an edge. That used to have spots of real danger, artists, dive joints, and affordable housing. I just don't get it. !!

  3. Thanks for the rant, Ken! I'm with you! Too often, when I'm walking around these days, I just start shaking my head. And not in a good way.
