Another robbery suspect tries to flee the police by jumping into the East River

"A bizarre armed robbery triggered a brawl on the lower East Side Friday that ended with a gunman trying to get away by jumping into the East River." (Daily News)

Last month, the alleged ATM bandit tried to elude police by jumping (diving?) into the East River.

One more jumper/diver, and we have ourselves a trends piece...

  1. I may have told this story before, but I will tell it again.

About 15 years ago my husband was walking along the East River and saw a man drowning. He braced himself against the river wall and grabbed the man's hand while he held on to the fence/wall with his other hand. While the man did hold on, it wasn't very tightly and appeared to be so intoxicated or wasted he didn't really know what was going on and didn't have a big will to live or save himself. Some other men came along and helped him hang on until the police came by in a boat and took over.

Since then, we have noticed that on TV it is fairly typical to show someone pulling another human out of a body of water with one hand, easily. Know that it isn't easy, nearly impossible to have such strength to pull a limp full grown man out of water, and my husband was sore for weeks after.
