Perhaps it will all be worked out... and, one day soon, I'll be able to see the row of ketchup bottles that you're not supposed to take...
I leave with this memory from a few weeks ago...
He put about $50 in the jukebox and danced and danced and danced. And this isn't really the kind of bar that people dance in, mind you. The fellow then went outside and smoked a funny smelling cigarette and yelled something about Sinatra.

i went here maybe 50x during the course of my undergrad and graduate schooling at pace a few blocks away. i loved the fact that no college kids were there. id go there for lunch nearly every day for a corned beef sandwich and fries. the bar had 5-6 drunks during the day, a few city office workers there for lunch and me.

but i liked it. ill miss it.
Thanks for the comment, anon. I think my favorite times here were post-lunch and pre-happy hour. I never saw many — or any! — students here. Maybe they were scared off by the crowd?

ReplyDeleteI was looking forward to their corned beef and cabbage all morning and walked over today (St. Patrick's) at lunch to find they were closed. When there were closed for a month in the fall I found the reason on your blog and checked back today to see if you had anything on why they were closed. I hope the court order is worked out and they can open again.
ReplyDeleteI'm a 24 year old employee by City Hall and love that you can actually sit down and have a real plate of food for $6 or $7. It's a weekly staple of my lunch routine. Plus, you really can't beat their happy hour prices all day long. $3 for domestics, $4 for imports, and $6 shots. If it's closed for good it will be very missed.

ReplyDeleteI haven't heard any updates here. I hope something can be worked out. Ryan McGuire's over on Cliff Street is more expensive, but a decent enough place...and they were closed by a fire last month... the choices are dwindling around these parts...
The Blarney Stone. That was my "Cheers"! I was a patron for years and met a lot of people there, good & bad. I even met my hubby there! I will miss everything about it from the food and cheap drinks to the funky bathrooms. I even miss Dave the night bartender with his rude, crude self. I feel sad everytime I go pass those locked gates. I sincerely hope the Blarney isn't gone for good.
