Atomic Passion a vintage store? That's a little bit of a stretch, maybe, certainly for clothes, doncha think? And Andy's has sucked for years, overpriced with not-so-hot merchandise, even when they had the other location near Union Square.
ReplyDeleteWhat about new vintage stores, like the guy who opened on 9th just west of 1st? He used to be in a smaller space on 10th between 1st and A...he actually expanded when he moved. Are there any others?
Not that I don't love you, and it's a shame to see these place go, but I don't think vintage stores are an endangered species around here just yet. Thank God! :-)

ReplyDeleteThe Monk's Thrift Shop on 10th & Ave A also closed recently (next store to the new Diablo).

ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that these shops are closing, yet vintage flea markets are all the rage.
ReplyDeleteHope there's a few left open in September when we come visiting for a little while. I want local and unique stores, not franchise nightmares. I'm traveling half way around the world to NYC to see the same old shit I can see in malls at home.
ReplyDeleteFlea markets are the rage because the prices are (usually) much more reasonable. I loved Beauty Crisis but their prices were absolutely ridiculous. Especially considering their stock was regular thrift store finds imported from neighboring states and then marked up to high heaven. I realize there's a certain degree of mark-up needed to keep the lights on and pay the rent in an expensive city such as this but Beauty Crisis took it way too far.
