And we're off!

So! The Select Bus Service starts on the M15 today...we checked in here on First Avenue near Third Street to see what was what and what not....

MTA officials were onhand to make sure things were going smoothly... at this time, there were more MTA people than actual passengers... one rider asked if he had to give the ticket to the driver. Nope, you just get on... Things went off here without a hitch...

We'll see how things go Tuesday in the first full rush hour (since, like, a lot of people don't have to work on Columbus Day tomorrow...)

  1. The MTA said one of the reasons they chose this week to launch was because Columbus Day gave them an extra day to practice (soft launch) before Tuesday's rush. New schedules always start on Sundays.

  2. So can I just get on the bus and use my regular unlimited MetroCard?

  3. the unlimited card works as any other method of payment for the m15 select service, i.e one must "purchase" a fare from one of the machines via a regular metrocard, unlimited metrocard, credit card, or cash/coins, and get then get a receipt prior to boarding the bus. the bus can be boarded via all doors. there is no fare transaction that occurs in the bus. one must keep the receipt for the duration of the trip. a bus conductor/inspector will then randomly ask for a passenger's receipt. so technically, everyone can board the m15 select service. however, if one can not produce a valid receipt, a summons could be issued.

  4. seems like a ripe opportunity to take back from the MTA lol. where is the control here? why are they doing this? seems very big brother. i also really hate they they are trying to eliminate the option to buy metrocards with cash. the anonymity of the city is seriously under siege.
