New tenant making move on southwest corner of 14th and Third

After sitting dormant for nearly 22 months, the prime patch of real estate on the southwest corner of 14th Street and Third Avenue apparently has an incoming tenant... workers just put up the freshly painted green plywood...





Robin Raj moved a few hundred feet away on Third Avenue in early 2009... At the time, Curbed heard from the RR guys that the new landlord wanted $60,000 a month in rent. (Heh, oh boy...)

I quickly looked at the DOB records... nothing too alarming afoot... nothing like, a mate for 123 Third Ave. ... Per the DOB:

Application is filed to combine two buildings. General construction, plumbing structural work, install new storefront, install temporary wood fence to be removed upon completion of work...


Even with three Duane Reades and one Walgreens within a block or two of here ... I have to go with a Duane Reade...

    The former site of Disco Donuts (featured prominently in "Downtown 81.") As 15-year-olds, my friend Walt and I ducked into Disco Donuts immediately following a Devo show at the Palladium ... and had our lives threatened by fellow patrons. Ah, good times.

    It took guts to be a Devo fan.

    Disco Donuts! Ohmigod, I STILL miss the bear claws and apple turnovers so huge ya could've chocked a B-52 with 'em! Oh, if only!

    But no, it'll be a bank. Or a bank that has a pizza parlor and nail salon in it for customer convenience. No bear claws, turnovers or colorful characters. Sigh.

    And the blandification of the EV continues apace.

    $60K?!!

    Sorry for the thread-jack, but any clue as to what is replacing Senor Swanky on LaGuardia and Bleecker? The permits are posted about ten feet off the ground, so they're impossible to read without a ladder.

    Goggla - Here's a blurb from the most recent issue of The Villager re what's replacing Senor Swanky's:

    C.B. 2 gave its advisory consent for a liquor license for a new place at the long-vacant former Senor Swanky’s. It will be an Anglo-Irish, country-style restaurant and tavern, not a sports bar. According to application materials, it will have "a rustic ambiance entailing time, astrology and travel" and will offer traditional British Isles fare, such as fish and chips, bubble and squeak, haddock in cider and haggis.

    Anglo-Irish, country-style restaurant? wow this sounds freaky good. I like this idea more than the one for a bank.
