In case you are waiting for someone coming down on the M15 Select Bus
As EV Grieve reader Mike notes at 42nd and Second, "Both of the machines were frozen on the post-transaction 'thank you' screen. One finally started working again but the second is still frozen. Big line to buy tickets."

A big sign at every kiosk: BLOOMBERG SLAVES WAIT HERE.
ReplyDeletebring the express back to 8th Street - this is retribution against the Village by Bloomie and his fasist allies in Albany. will the 2nd Ave subway stop at 8th St?
About fifteen minutes ago on the uptown M15, four NYPD officers boarded the bus at 24th street and asked for everyone's proof of purchase. Only one machine had been working at 14th street and the line buy was painfully long and slow so a couple people jumped on the bus without tickets. After arguing with the officers about the broken machines at 14th street, the officers pulled both passengers off the bus and out onto the street... presumably to ticket them. Yikes! In San Francisco they just write you a ticket on the spot for riding muni without a ticket. Pulling you off the bus is just salt in the wound.
ReplyDeleteI took the M15 express for the first (and last) time last week. The bus driver wouldn't let people on at all without the receipts through his door; the result was a bus that moved just as slow as it would usually.
ReplyDeleteWhen I picked up the M15 local from St Marks the next day the passengers were confused and asked the driver why he wasn't going all the way to South Ferry--which caused the driver to start screaming, riders screaming back about confusion and the changes, etc.
All in all: MTA Fail.

ReplyDeletePlease, take your stupid conspiracy theories elsewhere. Yes, it sucks that the express bus doesn't stop at 8th Street, but the Second Avenue Subway was never going to stop there, either... even in the very first iteration of the plan in 1929.
Actually, the enforcement officers can pull you off the bus to make you swipe your MetroCard if they choose not to ticket you. I hope that is indeed what they decided to do in this case.
ReplyDeleteIf the 2nd Avenue subway was never planned to stop at 8th Street, then why were they excavating a station for it back in the 70's? I still remember the open pit in front of Estroff's, as the drugstore was then, and asking about it and being told that it would indeed stop there. Whenever.

ReplyDeleteOK. That sent a chill up my spine. I am pro-cop but dang... I do NOT like the sound of that!
HippieChick: That was excavation for the tunnel, not a station. They relocated utilities between 2nd and 9th Street in the 70s before filling it all back in, but no station was ever planned there. They also excavated further downtown and up in East Harlem around that time, and even completed some tunnel segments, but no station shells.
ReplyDelete8th Street/St. Marks the bastard hate child of the MTA...
ReplyDeleteMaybe people will start pulling the emergency door opener [after breaking the plastic 'glass'] and just exit at St.Marks... enough people do it might change MTA's mind..
