We'll always have the MTA

From today's Post:

An MTA bus bully slapped a $100 summons on a Manhattan woman deemed too slow to show her ticket for the new express M15 Select Bus -- a service that has increasingly become a cash cow for the money-strapped agency.

Since 2008, NYC Transit cops have handed out more than $1 million in summonses on the two Select Bus lines, the M15 and the Bx12, whose riders buy tickets from a sidewalk machine rather than pay on board.

The machines are supposed to speed the passengers' trips, but some straphangers gripe that the speediest thing about the Select Bus service is how quickly officers ticket customers.

  1. So you get ticketed for 100$ for wanting to ride a bus? Out of the blue someone is going to walk up and purposely.. what? Not want to ride it but be sitting on it? Why would anyone on it not have a ticket? Scam? It's a bus- not like they can run car to car avoiding the ticket taker, so.. you get a ticket for being slow to get it out of your pocket? I agree with the graffiti.

  2. I'm with C Merry. It's not like she was trying to be a stowaway on a Transatlantic flight or even a Greyhound bus to Philadelphia! It's a local BUS RIDE.

  3. How soon they forget. Dont you remember NYC during the 1970's and 1980's. The low-lifes were always looing to get over by jumping the turnstyles and not paying. These busses make it very easy for tghat to return. Kudos to the MTS for finally figuring that out. Stopping thst shit in the bud before it starts.

  4. Thanksgiving night a fellow dinner guest was handcuffed for having a monthly pass instead of the proper express ticket. Handcuffed and taken to jail. More of a post-dinner guest.

  5. Rules are rules. What good are they unless they're enforced.
