Anderson Cooper interviews Lady Gaga on Stanton Street; police called
Exciting international news developing now on Stanton Street ... CNN's Anderson Cooper with camera crew is interviewing former LES resident Lady Gaga. And our very own Cat Sitter in the City is on the scene. She filed a live report ... Lady Gaga is showing Anderson her old stomping grounds at 176 Stanton... it appears that they enter the building for a tour... afterwards, the pair walk toward Clinton Street, where a police car pulls up. Lady Gaga says hello, etc. They move on. Then! The police car pulls in front of 176 Stanton, where someone who could be the super emerges and starts screaming and gesturing. Basically, he's pe-od that Lady Gaga got into the building... Minutes later, the super is still screaming.
One other note. "She was not dressed properly for the weather," Cat Sitter reports. "But she's Lady Gaga." So, no sleeves, stockings, that kind of thing.

I noticed that Anderson Cooper was also improperly dressed. He was wearing a blue hoodie. I always wear a winter coat and a hat in winter!
ReplyDeletethey both need a haircut
ReplyDeletegotta love ny. the super is obviously the hero in this story lol
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they toured the rich neighborhood she grew up in and the private schools she went to.
ReplyDeleteAre there still "old timers" here--did not know Lady Gaga??Maybe a "new old timer".Hmmmm
ReplyDeleteWow Marty, that's might big bag of chips you've got on your shoulder there. Didn't your grannie ever teach that if you don't have something nice to say you shouldn't open your mouth at all?
ReplyDeleteAnderson Cooper just wants to make an appearance here to show his support of the gentrification.
ReplyDeleteSuper's pissed cos he wanted to get her autograph, or at least a bribe.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous 5:05pm: She grew up in a rich neighborhood and went to private schools. I didn't write that was bad, I wrote I wondered if they went there. And these chips on my shoulder are delicious! Would you care for some?
ReplyDeleteMarty, yes she grew up in Manhattan but not the priest richest part. her parents are, for the most part, upper middle class through progress in their careers. Yes, they could afford the music and voice and theatre lessons to nurture their prodigy of a daughter. And yes, they were able to afford a private convent school for both daughters, but they probably took out loans because those kinds of schools are as expensive as colleges, if not more so.
ReplyDeleteBut as an artist, it is the Lower East Side where Gaga practiced and improved her chops, learned the ropes, and found a social group where she wasn't an outcast or a freak, as she had been treated by her schoolmates. So if the interview is covering her growth as an artist, visiting her old LES apartment is perfectly appropriate. Even a freshman journalism student knows that much.
You seem to hold her parents' wealth against her. Why? She had nothing to do with that. The only bearing it has on her career is that she was able to take advantage of lessons and training that helped her improve her inherent musical talents. So what? For how she began and how she grew, the LES is the place to start.
@windrider: How am I holding her parents wealth against her? I wondered if they went to where she grew up and went to school. Where did I state that it was inappropriate to go to the LES for this interview? You sure got a lot out of the one sentence I wrote.
ReplyDeleteEveryone, please shuddafuckup about who's rich and who isnt. All I know is she's fuckenugly and Madonna did it first (and probably better).
ReplyDeleteI wonder what it's all about? Maybe she wants to do something charitable for the L.E.S.., and Anderson Cooper wants to align himself with it.
ReplyDeleteTaking the angle that people are doing a lot of good things on the L.E.S.,
and meanwhile you see it's been destroyed. How positive things inevitably wind up supporting gentrification, kind of like the First Street Green Project where the Guggenheim and BMW want to step in. Lets wait and see what the true story is.
The Lower East Side has been raped. The area is more and more becoming a place for the super duper rich. They already hit Soho, the West Village,Tribeca and beyond. People who could once afford to live here can not anymore. Even many successful people have been forced to relocate either because their rent has quadrupled or because they just can't take the mentality of these super duper people. Anderson Cooper needs to stay in the West Village where he belongs. He loves all this shit.
ReplyDeleteSo Windrider2,
ReplyDeleteAgain; the question was simply did Anderson Cooper cover the same information that you felt was important for you to post in your own comment?
Marty is 100% correct.
ReplyDeleteHere she claims...
"The Lower East Side has an arrogance, a stench. We walk and talk and live and breathe who we are with such an incredible stench that eventually the stench becomes a reality. Our vanity is a positive thing. It’s made me the woman I am today.” -Lady Gaga
Really... LES made ya?
"Her look was wrong—someone in the audience shouted out 'Amy Winehouse.' I told her that she needed to dye her hair blonde, and she did it right away. God bless that girl, she really does listen.”
-Vincent Herbert, Interscope Records (NY Mag interview)
Apparently she's more "Vincent Herbert" than "Sara Roosevelt."
Anderson and Lady Gaga were probably just finishing up the 60 Minutes interview that will air next month prior to her new cd being released. They've already been in London and Argentina to film parts of the interview.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Lady Gaga is launching her campaign to get a seat on CB 3! She doesn't want Chloe to get their first. Get with the program people - these celebrities love all the shit that is happening down here. They are smart enough to realize like the religious right that the best way to impose your will on a community is through local government like community boards, school boards, the PTA etc. Takes alot of money to run for Congress, but it takes nothing to get elected to a community board etc. Once on one of these local bodies they can use their star power to dazzle other members and get their brother a liquour license to open a club or support a decision to let the guggenheim and bmw use a vacant lot for their own marketing etc. I bet Cooper is gonna ask to serve on his CB too, but that neighborhood is shot so . . .but here we still have a chance - thanks for gracing us with your presence Lady G and Anderson C, but we don't need you or want you in the LES. Hey someone call DOB about the illegal construction or perhaps tip off Anderson and he can do a CNN expose on all of the illegal construction that rips the heart out of the LES!
ReplyDeletemaybe gaga and chloe could both join the community board - give it a llittle lower class - they will feel right at home in our local zoo.
ReplyDeletethe DOB (or any city agency for that matter) will come out when they think they can issue fines - stop work orders usually come with a fine. the board of health too.
DOT gave that poor soul holding a "parking" sign on 11th and first a $150 ticket for resting his sign on a city lamppost.
