As Fork in the Road reported back on Dec. 21, Westville East on Avenue A and 11th Street was closing for renovations... As promised, the restaurant reopens today — at 5, to be exact...

  1. best grilled cheese sandwich ANYwhere :) will be odd tho looking out their window at our old windows. Well when the roof is falling on your head and your walls cracked and you are told they will NOT be fixed until you leave it's time to move on. But the EV is a nice walk or a door to door bus ride away so I just have a bigger neighborhood now :) and always "The Grieve" :)

  3. I live above this place and it has been hard to go without my Hebrew special with fries - $8 bucks.

We in the building have, however, enjoyed a bit of a break from the weekend brunch nazis!

  5. Anyone got an update on that bagel place that's supposed to be opening a few doors down where Monk used to be? Can't remember the name of the joint, but wasn't it supposed to be up and running by now?

  6. Hi Lisa. I am hoping to be open by March 1 . The trap doors I'm having installed out front are taking a bit longer than I expected. Name is still Tompkins Square Bagels for now. Although, my wife likes the idea of 'Bagels and Beans'

  7. @Anon 1:01 - Thanks for the update, looking forward to your opening. If those "trap doors" are your method of disposing of unruly customers the old McGurk's Suicide Hall way, I'm impressed. (Pssst - I say stick with TSB. Bagels and Beans sounds too Midwestern kute 'n hokey.)

  8. Yes ;-) Trap doors for drunken unruly NYU/Jersey/Suburban kids like the ones who I have already spotted puking and urinating in front of my soon to be storefront. They will drop through high speed chutes and resurface in uncharted, un-gentrified, portions of Brooklyn where men who look like this will administer public etiquette lessons.
