Daily News brings further shame to the East Village

I missed this feature in the Daily News ... Thanks (maybe!) to EV Grieve reader Crazy Eddie for passing along the links — complete with an apology.


As you can see, we're No. 2 for singles! Woo!

And now, the lead to the section on the East Village:

Somehow this neighborhood once known for sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll keeps getting better. If this place were a rock band, in the 1990s it would have been a raucous merging of the Sex Pistols meets the Rolling Stones. Today, it’s more mellow indie rock meets John Mayer.

And!

One person scored a $1,900 one-bedroom on a fourth-floor walk-up. About $3,000 will get you a small two-bedroom. The farther east one goes, towards Avenue C and D, the less one pays, but the closer one gets to housing projects and traditional, immigrant areas known for their local flavor.

Parts of this area gets gritty, but public gardens fill the empty lots, some with Roman amphitheatres, others with weeping willow trees and small ponds filled with gold fish.

  2. i sent you a link to another article about the most popular places to live in Manhattan and East Village was top 5, the darker the the neighborhood the map the more popular and we were as dark blue as could be!

  4. Just what we needed- applause for the glut of bars and restaurants. And- don't see how the roving shouting screaming groups Wednesday through Saturday night qualify as John Mayer types.

    so, people come here for the local flavor and that reduces the rent?

    it's like they come here for the "history" and live in buildings that have destroyed that history.

    at one time everyone in this country was an immigrant. oops, i forgot, that's history.

  16. I live in between C&D and pay $2000 for an immaculately renovated and large apartment in a walk up building. I love love love my apartment but I hate my rent-controlled neighbors that think they run shit just because they've been here for the past twenty goddamn years, and yeah, the projects are pretty loud and annoying. If it wasn't for the entertainment factor of criminals dodging arrests and crackhead fights, I'd probably move tomorrow.
