An East Village apartment worthy of a diplomat

I was just trolling some one-bedroom apartments... and came across this listing in Tompkins Square Plaza at 190 Seventh St. just east of Avenue B...

Building Features: Diplomats OK, Doorman, Elevator, Laundry, New Construction,

This building has a lavish attended lobby with leather waiting area, for guests to await. The rear building is located through a beautiful courtyard with fountains, benches tables and chairs to enjoy your coffee while reading the paper. Upon entering the apartment, the first thing you notice is space, and lots of it. Open to the corner kitchen with room for a dining room table, your living room will cause envy among your friends.

I've seen plenty of "diplomat-friendly" listings around Union Square, Gramercy Park, Kips Bay and streets closer to the UN... just don't recall many ads mentioning diplomats here... Anyway, it has a diplomat-friendly price of $3,200 for the one-bedroom apartment...

  1. Yet that photo only conjures up one opinion of the apartment for me: craptastic.

  2. "For guests to await"? Who wrote this bilge, Henry VIII? And why would you make 'em wait in the lobby? Oh wait, is it cos the apartment is a hole with 8' ceilings, cheap windows, thin sheetrock walls and crappy metal heat registers in a room probably 9 feet wide, as seems to be the reality on display? OK, now I get it.

  3. Diplomats make horrible renters...they trash the place and can't be take to court if they default due to "immunity".

You looking for an apt EVgrieve? You know better than to trust Craigslist! Lol

  5. Hmmm, oddly enough, it's true. Some diplomats used to live in that building. Considering the number of people who work at the UN, it's likely that every other block between 7th St. and the UN contains at least one diplomat, dontchathink?

  6. Here's the ad.. good lord, the "bedroom" looks only to be about 7 feet wide.

  7. So they took out all the walls, but didn't put in a new floor? What are those lines on the floor?-so you can put the walls back up if you want? I find those photos very confusing. In the last one there is furniture, but it can't be the same apartment because none of the other photos have furniture. Very fishy.

  8. I used to live in this building and if I thought you'd all care I'd defend it-- I only left because I had new roommates and needed to leave the neighborhood. But that last picture is the lobby, not the apartment. I'm surprised the ad didn't advertise the on-site gym, laundry, and roofdecks.

  9. Makes me wonder, yet again what has happened to the EV. Diplomats? The dirty reality of NYC life, a struggling people & their creativity that fed the formation of a multiple cultural community.

  10. Oh that makes so more sense, thanks for clarifying, and I for one care.
