Report: The Bean owes $24,784.50 in back taxes

Earlier today, we reported that the State shuttered the Bean on First Avenue at Third Street for failure to pay back taxes. Patrick Hedlund at DNAinfo has a follow-up:

The Department of Taxation and Finance spokeswoman added that four warrants for failure to pay taxes totaling $24,784.50 are still open on the property.

  1. No! I like sitting in there and writing and people watching on the bench..shoot. Now it's Starfucks and the crazies there..or mud and overload of hipsters.

  2. I never go in there but I like The Bean. I always saw it as a quirky kind of place with a diverse crowd. I hope that they will be able to work something out. The patrons seem very loyal.

  4. The Bean and it's computers were pretty handy for us while staying in East Village for a fortnight last year (screen free holidays still require a bit of internet banking and "we're doing ok" emails back home!). The coffee shop franchises were never an option and this place wasn't full of wankers. I hope The Bean work out their problems and reopen soon.
