From Fork in the Road:
Remember that debacle over the Chocolate Library, the East Village chocolate shop whose owner was forced to change its name to Chocolate 101 after the education department told him the law forbade the use of the word "library" in business names? In a victory for the owner, Byron Bennett, he's now allowed to call his place a library.

The Chocolate Library ready for checkout
This is a really cool store, they have some very obscure brands and flavours. Not sure if this is the best location for them but its a good idea aptly fulfilled. For a chocolate lover, its a destination I think. That beer store and the saki store nearby are similarly interestingly obsessive.

ReplyDeleteI've heard that it's a cool store. I'm often happy with any new storefront that isn't nightlife-related...
there was (still is?) a bar called the library. i don't remember them having a problem with the name.
ReplyDeleteit was not down here.
What about the Library bar on A? Is it only new places that the education department goes after? Because if kids are actually confused by this I'd rather they end up in a chocolate shop.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. What about 'The Library' on Avenue A.
ReplyDeleteinsane! They forced the Chocolate Library to change names but not the bar on ave a called "The Library"?

That's because David McWater owns the Library and he can do what ever he wants.
ReplyDeleteChange the name to The Chocolate Bordello and then everyone will shriek about that and demand it be called Library again.
