The Doctor is in...
Last night, "Doctor Who" fans started camping out outside the East Village Cinemas on Second Avenue and 12th Street... The premiere of the BBC series "Doctor Who" takes place tonight here ...

ReplyDelete@Lisa: I have no idea either. The only Dr. Who I know of is Dr. Jimmy from Quadrophenia. All I know is we need Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to show up there ASAP!

ReplyDeleteI was a big Dr. Who fan when I was in high school. Judging by the looks of the crowd, I doubt anyone goes by the nickname Sir Lays a Lot. But who am I to judge, eh?

ReplyDeleteI'm a big big big Doctor Who fan and have been since about 1978, so if anyone has any questions I'll be happy to give it a shot. Consider me at your disposal anytime.
ReplyDeleteThat said, as soon as I heard about this event, I knew it wasn't for me. I have fond memories of waiting on what seemed like huge lines to get into early Star Trek conventions or the original Star Wars in 1977…but honestly, camping out on line overnight would have been too much for me even then. Now I'm just too old and tired. You kids have fun without me.
(Especially when I'll be able to watch the same show in the comfort of my own home in a few more days. The more I think about it, the more obvious it is that this is contrived to build up the idea of waiting on line as an entertainment in itself. Whatever, so long as you're happy. I wish you naches.)
N.B.: BBC America did the same kind of preview for last season's opening episode at the same venue, and made a mini-documentary about the screening which can be found on the DVD box set.
Or Roger and Melanie and I could form our own line!
ReplyDeleteJon at the reciprocal, the skateboard shop on 11st, was visited by the Doctor Who cast--they played the Doctor Who pinball machine in his shop--and he made two brief videos of the Doctor, Amy, and Rory.
