UCB's new sign now dictating how we should live our lives

As the Times reported on Friday, the Upright Citizens Brigade donated the old "Hot Chicks Room" sign to a nonprofit...

And now, check out the new sign that has taken the place of the "Chicks" here on Avenue A at Third Street ...

This new sign, of course, is an outrage. Not everyone wants to live comedy. We need to be free to live our own lives. This is just another example of the current oppressive state of America, in which our lives are ruled by government, Big Business and comedy clubs. We need to be able to exercise the freedoms that our constitution calls for. So don't live comedy, live as you see fit. Live drama!

And another thing... [Looking off page...]

Oh. You mean LIVE as in "actually being performed at the time of hearing or viewing"?

Never mind then.

So what's the over/under on someone having a problem with this sign?

  1. The new sign isn't funny. It also isn't offensive, but it is innocuous and makes no sense, thus making it a frat-magnet! Agreed. It must come down. Now.

  2. The red curtains look seedy.

    I'm still offended!!!

  3. Having things to do in the east village and LES will only serve to bring in more frat people and other undesirables. This is a disaster.

  4. Thriving businesses along Avenue A = BAD

    Empty storefronts = GOOD

  5. The red & green decor is so festive. It's Christmas EVERY day at UCB!

  6. I have a problem with this sign because LIVE spelled backwards is EVIL, so it's obvious they are trying to attract Satanists, Mayor Bloomberg and real estate developers as their audience.

  7. @Lisa

    Ha! True!

Of course, comedy spelled backwards is ydemoc, which is Romanian for $6 pints of Miller Genuine Draft.

  8. I prefer Zombie comedy, but that's just me. I don't mind the sign, but the red will just attract Sammy Hagar and he's usually sloppy drunk on his own tequila, which is always embarrassing.

  9. It's in the East Village and it's new. Thus, the conservative, no-change-is-ever-good opinionators that dominate this sight will most certainly oppose it, if for no other reason than their fear that it might attract people who are not exactly the same as themselves, and who, as such, are deemed unworthy of setting foot in the East Village.

  10. Anonymous 1:07pm:
I, too, was once deemed unworthy of living in this neighborhood...until I showed up in my red Ferrari.

  11. Black and red? Looks more like a venue to worship Satan than have a good laugh! The FBI should be called in! Think of the children! ;)

  12. Everyone has a sense of humor except the anti-nimbys -- isn't it supposed to be the other way around?

  13. I can imagine Anonymous' (1:07) generic, corny dumbass suburban face. I can imagine him in his adidas breakaway pants and sandals going into a deli, since he's "so chill bro" and ordering his bacon egg and cheese.

i can imagine, i can be sickened.

  14. Can't the sign say CARGO SHORTS? I'm holding a protest about this sign. It will be held at Mars Bar and I will be drinking there. The sign won't be mentioned or anything..but they will get the message! FTW!
