Will someone tag the new mural on Houston and the Bowery?

On Thursday, JR installed "Lakota, North Dakota," the latest mural here... Given that the last two murals on this space were tagged ... bombed ... ripped apart ... we were wondering how people would respond to this...

We spotted a bit of a squiggle this morning...

...and someone already tore off a little sliver of the mural...

  1. Undoubtedly! Graffiti artists and writers consider that wall their space, and they're continually "taking it back."

  2. judging by the casual and accepted racism towards Native Americans in New York and the rest of the country, the allusions to Tanto, the crying Indian from thos old commericials; and any number of offensive sports mascots will inevitably be scrawled across this wall.

  3. There are two more of these down on Wooster and Grand. I think they look great in the Soho location - they blend in more with the semi-derelict surroundings.
