BaoHaus signage now up on East 14th Street


As Eater first noted, chef/foodie personality Eddie Huang is opening a second BaoHaus location ... this one on East 14th Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue.

Among other things, the shop will feature a "Great Wall of Chinamen" with images of Connie Chung, Genghis Khan, RZA, Gizmo the Gremlin, William Hung, Confucius, Chairman Mao, Kung Fu Panda and Long Duck Dong.

BaoHaus 2 takes over the space that previously housed Thai Me Up. The sign in the window says opening in July 2011.

    I love that iconic Chinaman Long Duck Dong will be up on the wall. "The Donger need food."

    What's up with Eddie Huang's use of the term "Chinamen"? It's generally considered a derogatory, offensive or even racist term by Chinese in the US.

    Tom, you can be quite certain that he's aware of the racist connotations (being Taiwanese himself), and if you read interviews with him, he definitely dealt with race and race issues growing up. He's playing with it deliberately, poking fun at it, like naming the combo dish the "Royal Frush".
